DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices fell by 1000 VND on August 17
Thursday, August 17,2023AsemconnectVietnam - On Thursday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands decreased by 1000 VND to VND69,000 to VND72,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.
In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper fell to VND72,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price to VND69,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND71,000 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND69,000 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND70,000 per kilogram.
The market is under general downward pressure of agricultural products when the high USD reduces the purchasing power of goods.
Concerns about the economic recession and high interest rate pressure on loans made importers limit the accumulation of goods, making pepper prices sluggish for a long time.
The average export price of pepper in July 2023 of Vietnam reached 3,731 USD/tonne, an increase of 3.24% compared to the average export price of June 2023. The Vietnam trade newspaper expected that the domestic supply of pepper will not be enough to meet export demand, because the amount of pepper produced has been exported since the end of August.
According to experts, this year's domestic production is estimated at 190 thousand tonnes, along with the import volume by the end of July 2023 is about 25,000 tonnes. Supply was also supplemented by last year's inventory to about 60,000 tonnes. Thus, the supply this year is about 275 thousand tonnes.
Meanwhile, in the first 7 months of the year, exports and domestic consumption were estimated at 175 thousand tonnes. In addition to the small amount of imports from now until the end of the year, the supply from now until the harvest of the new crop is only about 100,000 tonnes/7 months. Except for 30,000 tonnes, which must be used to reserve the crop, the monthly supply is only 10,000 tonnes. According to the assessment, such supply is very low for the last months of the year.
