Leading export items in first half of 2023

Phones and components ranked second with 24.2 billion USD, down by 17% compared to the same period of 2022.

According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in the first 6 months of 2023, computers, electronics and components were the commodity group with the largest turnover among export groups of the whole country, reaching nearly 25.59 billion USD, down by 7.6% over the same period of 2022.
In June of 2023, the country’s exports of computers and electronic components reached nearly 5.07 billion USD, up by 13.2% compared to May of 2023 but down by 2% compared to June of 2022.
The group of computers and electronic components accounted for 15.5% of the country's total export turnover of all kinds of goods.
Leading export markets of computers, electronics and components in the first half of 2023
The US was leading the list of main export markets of computers, electronics and components in the first 6 months of 2023 with nearly 7.36 billion USD, up by 0.5% and accounting for nearly 28.8% of the total export turnover of this group of goods nationwide; China with over 6.13 billion USD, accounting for 24%, up by 4% over the same period of 2022; Hong Kong 2.24 billion USD (accounting for 8.8%, down by 22.2%); South Korea over 2.22 billion USD (accounting for 8.7%, up by 24.4%).
Especially, the exports of computers, electronics and components to the Indian market in the first 6 months of this year only accounted for 3.3% of the total turnover, reaching 844.79 million USD, but in comparison to the same period of 2022, it increased very strongly by 76.5%.
Vietnam’s exports of phones and components in the first 6 months of 2023
In the first 6 months of 2023, the export turnover of phones and components of all kinds of the whole country reached over 24.2 billion USD, down by 17% compared to the same period of 2022, according to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
This was the 2nd commodity group in terms of turnover among Vietnam's export commodity groups behind the group of electronic computers and components, accounting for 14.7% of the country's total export turnover.
In June of 2023, the exports of phones and components reached over 4.01 billion USD, up by 37.2% compared to May of 2023 but down by 8.7% compared to June of 2022.
China was leading the list of the country’s main export markets of phones and components in the first six months of 2023, with over 6.33 billion USD, down by 1.8% over the same period of 2022, accounting for 26.2% of the total export turnover of phones and components of all kinds of the country. In June of 2023 alone, the figure reached 1.59 billion USD, a sharp increase of 123.8% compared to May of 2023 and an increase of 89% compared to June of 2022.
The second largest market was the US with over 4.08 billion USD, down by 38.3%, accounting for 16.9%. In June of 2023 alone, the figure increased by 1.5% compared to May of 2023 but decreased sharply by 63% compared to June of 2022, reaching 479.26 million USD.
South Korean market followed with over 1.59 billion USD, accounting for 6.6%, a sharp decrease of 42.7% over the same period of 2022. The exports to the U.A.E market reached nearly 1.03 billion USD, down by 27.2%; and the exports to Austrian market reached 980.37 million USD, down by 2.2%.
