Seafood exports decreased by 27.3% in first 6 months of 2023
Wednesday, July 19,2023AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 6 months of 2023, Vietnam’s exports of seafood products reached nearly 4.15 billion USD, down by 27.3% compared to the first 6 months of 2022.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, the exports of aquatic products in June of 2023 decreased by 5.1% compared to May of 2023 and decreased by 23.7% compared to June of 2022, reaching nearly 768.21 million USD. In general, in the first 6 months of 2023, the country’s exports of this group of goods reached nearly 4.15 billion USD, down by 27.3% compared to the first 6 months of 2022.
Japanese market accounted for 17.2% of the country's total export turnover of this commodity group, reaching over 712.52 million USD, down by 10.9% compared to the first six months of 2022. In June of 2023 alone, the figure reached 132.24 million USD, down by 3.3% compared to May of 2023 and down by 17.9% compared to June of 2022.
The US market ranked second in terms of turnover, accounting for 17%, reaching nearly 705.8 million USD, a sharp decrease of 46.2% over the same period last year. In June of 2023 alone, the exports to this market reached 143.33 million USD, down by 5% compared to May of 2023 and sharply down by 33.9% compared to June of 2022.
The next was the Chinese market. In June of 2023, the country’s exports of seafood to China decreased by 18.8% compared to May of 2023 and decreased by 8.6% compared to June of 2022, reaching 121.97 million USD. In the whole 6 months of 2023, the exports to this market decreased by 23.5% compared to the first 6 months of 2022, reaching over 634.35 million USD, accounting for 15.3% of the total export turnover of this commodity group of the country.
Vietnam’s seafood exports to the FTA RCEP markets in the first six months of 2023 decreased by 18% compared to the first six months of 2022, reaching over 2.18 billion USD, accounting for 52.6% of the total turnover; the exports to the FTA CPTTP market decreased by 21.6%, reaching over 1.12 billion USD, accounting for 27% while the exports to the Southeast Asian market accounted for 7.8% of the total turnover, reaching nearly 325.17 million USD, down by 15.7%.
