Rice exports increased in first 6 months of 2023
Monday, July 17,2023AsemconnectVietnam - In the first six months of 2023, the whole country exported nearly 4.24 million tonnes of rice, equivalent to nearly 2.26 billion USD, up by 21.3% in volume and 32.2% in turnover compared to the first six months of 2022.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in June of 2023 the whole country exported 617,998 tonnes of rice, equivalent to 340.77 million USD, the average price was 551.4 USD/tonne, down by 14.7% in volume and decreased by 12.8% in turnover but increased slightly by 2.3% in price compared to May of 2023. In comparison to June of 2022, it also decreased by 14.9% in volume, decreased by 3.9% in turnover but increased by 13% in price.
In June of 2023, rice exports to the main market of the Philippines continued to decline sharply by 32.3% in volume and 31.9% in turnover but increased slightly by 0.6% in price compared to May of 2023, reaching 166,421 tonnes, equivalent to 85.28 million USD, priced at 512.5 USD/tonne; and also fell sharply by 53.2% in volume, down by 49.9% in turnover, but increased by 7.2% in price compared to June of 2022. The rice exports to the Chinese market in June of 2023 also fell sharply by 64.3% in volume and 63.2% in turnover compared to May of 2023, reaching 44,918 tonnes, equivalent to 26.47 million USD. In comparison to June of 2022, it also decreased by 10.4% in volume, but increased by 6.1% in turnover.
For the whole 6 months of 2023, the country's rice exports reached nearly 4.24 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 2.26 billion USD, up by 21.3% in volume, 32.2% in turnover compared to the first 6 months of 2022, the average price reached 532.6 USD/tonne, up by 9%.
The Philippines still ranked first in Vietnam's rice consumption, accounting for 40% of the total volume and 38% of the country's total rice export turnover, reaching nearly 1.7 million tonnes, equivalent to 857.68 million USD, the average price was 504.9/tonne, up by 4.6% in volume, up by 13% in turnover and by 8.1% in price compared to the first 6 months of 2022.
It was followed by the Chinese market, accounted for 16% of the total volume and accounted for 17.3% of the total turnover, reaching 677,387 tonnes, equivalent to 390.62 million USD, the average price was 576.7 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 54. 4% in volume and 71.2% in turnover; the prices increased by 10.8% compared to the first 6 months of 2022.
The Indonesian market ranked third with 492,801 tonnes, equivalent to 244.06 million USD, priced at 495.3 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 1,388% in volume, an increase of 1,404% in turnover and a slight increase of 1.1% in price compared to the same period of 2022, accounting for 11.6% of the total volume and 10.8% of the total rice export turnover of the country.
The exports to RCEP FTA markets reached 3.14 million tonnes, equivalent to 1.63 billion USD, up by 32.7% in volume, up by 43.7% in turnover. The exports to FTA CPTTP markets reached 280,588 tonnes, equivalent to 145.75 million USD, up by 3% in volume, up by 8.7% in turnover and the exports to Southeast Asia market reached 2.45 million tonnes, equivalent to 1.23 billion USD, up by 28.3% in volume, up by 37.8% in turnover.
