Coffee exports decreased in volume, increased in turnover in first 5 months of 2023
Friday, June 30,2023AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 5 months of 2023, coffee exports decreased by 1.8% in volume, but increased by 1.5% in turnover and increased by 3.3% in price compared to the first 5 months of 2022, showed the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
According to preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs, in May 2023, Vietnam's coffee exports decreased by 8.5% in volume and 3.5% in turnover compared to April of 2023, but the price increased by 5.5%, reaching 149,667 tonnes, equivalent to 384.69 million USD, the average price was 2,570 USD/tonne. In the first 5 months of 2023, coffee exports decreased by 1.8% in volume, but increased by 1.5% in value and 3.3% in price compared to the first 5 months of 2022, reaching 866,121 tonnes, equivalent to 2.01 billion USD, the average price was USD/tonne.
Germany was leading the list of Vietnam’s main coffee export markets in the first 5 months of 2023, accounting for 13.2% of the total volume and accounting for 11.9% of the country's total coffee export turnover, reaching 114,072 tonnes, equivalent to 240.2 million USD, priced at 2,105.7 USD/tonne, down by 1.5% in volume, 3.6% in turnover and 2.2% in price compared to the first 5 months of 2022. In May of 2023 alone, the country’s exports of coffee reached 14,852 tonnes, equivalent to 35.62 million USD, down by 35.7% in volume, down by 28% in turnover compared to April of 2023.
Italy ranked second with 82,882 tonnes, equivalent to 177.17 million USD, priced at 2,137.7 USD/tonne, up by 25.7% in volume, up by 22.7% in turnover, but down by 2.4% in price compared to the first five months of 2022, accounting for 9.6% of the total volume and 8.8% of the country's total coffee export turnover.
Coffee exports to the US market also increased by 27.5% in volume, and by 16.3% in turnover but decreased by 8.8% in price compared to the first 5 months of 2022, reaching 64,493 tonnes, equivalent to 145.28 million USD, the average price was 2,252.6 USD/tonne, accounting for over 7% of the total volume and total turnover.
