Rice exports increased by 41.6% in turnover in first 5 months of 2023
Wednesday, June 21,2023AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 5 months of 2023, the whole country exported 3.62 million tonnes of rice, equivalent to 1.92 billion USD, up by 30.7% in volume, up by 41.6% in turnover compared to the first 5 months of 2022.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in May of 2023, the whole country exported 724,609 tonnes of rice, equivalent to 390.58 million USD, the average price was 539 USD/tonne, down by 30.6% in volume and down by 28 .5% in turnover but a slight increase of 3% in price compared to April of 2023. In comparison to May of 2022, it increased 2% in volume, 12.5% in turnover and 10.3% in price.
In May of 2023, rice exports to the main market of the Philippines decreased sharply by 37.8% in volume and 36.7% in turnover but increased by 1.8% in price compared to April of 2023, reaching 245,927 tonnes, equivalent to 125.29 million USD, with the price of 509.5 USD/tonne; and also decreased by 30.7% in volume, down by 25.3% in turnover, but increased by 7.9% in price compared to May of 2022. Rice exports to the Chinese market in May of 2023 also decreased 24.5% in volume and 23% in turnover compared to April of 2023, reaching 125,929 tonnes, equivalent to 71.95 million USD. In comparison to May of 2022, it increased by 37.4% in volume, increased by 50% in turnover.
In the first 5 months of 2023, the country's rice exports reached over 3.62 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 1.92 billion USD, up by 30.7% in volume, up by 41.6% in turnover compared to 5 months. In the first month of 2022, the average price reached 529.4 USD/tonne, up by 8.3%.
The Philippines still ranks first in Vietnam's rice consumption, accounting for 42.3% of the total volume and 40.3% of the country's total rice export turnover, reaching 1.53 million tonnes, equivalent to 772.43 million USD, the average price was 504 USD/tonne, up by 20.6% in volume, up by 31% in turnover and up by 8.6% in price compared to the first 5 months of 2022.
It was followed by the Chinese market, accounted for 17.5% of the total volume and 19% of the total turnover, reaching 632,469 tonnes, equivalent to 364.17 million USD, the average price was 575.8 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 62.8% in volume and 79.1% in turnover; prices increased by 10% compared to the first 5 months of 2022.
The Indonesian market ranked third with 369,032 tonnes, equivalent to 181.36 million USD, priced at 491.4 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 1,498% in volume and 1,519% increase in turnover and a slight increase of 1.3% in price compared to the same period of 2022, accounting for 10.2% of the total volume and 9.5% of the total rice export turnover of the country.
The exports to RCEP FTA markets reached 2.78 million tonnes, equivalent to 1.44 billion USD, up by 46.6% in volume, up by 58.7% in turnover. Meanwhile, the exports to FTA CPTTP markets reached 252,419 tonnes, equivalent to 129.52 million USD, up by 17.6% in volume, up by 22.5% in turnover; and the exports to Southeast Asia market reached 2.14 million tonnes, equivalent to 1.07 billion USD, up by 43.3% in volume, and up by 54.2% in turnover.
