Exports to UK reached 2.3 billion USD in first 5 months of 2023
Wednesday, June 21,2023AsemconnectVietnam - According to the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, the export turnover of Vietnamese goods to the UK market in May of 2023 reached 459.6 million USD, down by 6.8% compared to the previous month.
Generally in the first 5 months of this year, the country’s exports of goods to the U.K reached 2.3 billion USD, down by 0.8% over the same period last year.
Leading export turnover in the first 5 months of 2023 was the group of phones and components, reaching 549.2 million USD, up by 38.4% over the same period last year, accounting for 23.2 % of the total export share. The next was the group of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts, reaching 349.1 million USD, up by 21.7%, accounting for 14.8% of the export proportion. And then was footwear of all kinds with 308.9 million USD, up by 7%, accounting for 13% of the proportion.
In the first 5 months of 2023, a number of items with export turnover increased significantly compared to the same period last year, such as cashew nuts increased by 9.5%; rubber products increased by 42.8%; vegetables and fruits increased by 31.4%; paper and paper products increased by 118.3%.
After more than 2 years of implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland (UKVFTA), the UK market has viewed more positively the image of Vietnamese businesses and Vietnamese products through the volume of goods imported from Vietnam increased sharply.
In order to be able to more effectively take advantage of the opportunities brought by the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA), Vietnamese businesses need to ensure that their products and production processes meet British standards.
