Corn imports decreased in the first 5 months of 2023
Monday, June 19,2023AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s imports of corn of all kinds in the first 5 months of 2023 reached nearly 3.21 million tonnes, worth of over 1.08 billion USD, the average price was 336.7 USD/tonne, down by 10.8% in volume, down by 12.8% in turnover and up by 2.1% in price compared to the first 5 months of 2022.
In particular, in May of 2023 alone, the country’s imports of corn reached 398,603 tonnes, equivalent to 131.31 million USD, the average price was 329.4 USD/tonne, down by 35.9% in volume and 38% in turnover compared to April of 202, and the prices fell by 3.4%. In comparison to May of 2022, the figure also dropped sharply by 61.1% in volume, 65.9% in turnover and 12.4% in price.
Brazil was the main market supplying corn to Vietnam in the first 5 months of 2023, accounting for over 43% of the total volume and accounting for 42.6% of the total corn import turnover of the country, reaching 1.38 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 459.87 million USD, priced at 333.4 USD/tonne, increased sharply by 325.7% in volume, 341% in turnover and 3.6% in price compared to the first 5 months of 2022.
In May of 2023 alone, the country’s imports of corn from Brazil reached 26,692 tonnes, equivalent to 7.8 million USD, the price was 292 USD/tonne, a sharp decrease of 80.8% in volume and 83.6% decrease in turnover compared to April of 2023, and the price decreased by 14 %.
The second largest market was Argentina. In the first 5 months of 2023, the country’s imports of corn from Argentina reached 907,017 tonnes, equivalent to 303.81 million USD, priced at 335 USD/tonne, accounting for over 28% of the total volume and total import turnover of corn of the country, down by 54% in volume, 55.7% in turnover and 3.4% in price compared to the first 5 months of 2022.
The next was the Indian market with 697,609 tonnes, equivalent to 227.87 million USD, priced at 326.6 USD/tonne, accounting for over 21% of the total volume and total import turnover of maize of the country, an increase of 11.4% in volume, up by 11.6% in turnover, and the price increased by 0.2% over the same period last year.
