Vietnam steel update: Exports increase in Apr m-o-m
Wednesday, May 17,2023AsemconnectVietnam - According to data released by the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in April, Vietnam's steel export volumes were about 974,000 tons, increasing by 11.4% from the previous month.
Among them, Vietnam's steel exports to Italy, the US, and Spain amounted to 216,000 tons, 84,000 tons, and 76,000 tons, increasing by 206.7%, 21.1%, and 3.4% year on year, respectively.
In the first four months, Vietnam's steel exports totaled around 3.26 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.6%.In specific, Vietnam's steel exports to Italy amounted to 483,000 tons, increasing by 70.3% from the same period a year ago. The exports to Cambodia and Malaysia were 389,000 tons and 315,000 tons, decreasing by 17.5% but increasing by 30.1% year on year, respectively.
Vietnam's Hoa Phat crude steel output rises in Apr m-o-m
According to the data released by Hoa Phat Steel, 525,000 tons of crude steel were produced in April 2023, increasing by 19% month on month and a year-on-year decrease of 29%. Among them, the production of hot-rolled coils was 239,000 tons, which hit a record high in a single month this year.
In terms of sales, it sold a total of 457,000 tons of steel in April, falling by 23% year on year and keeping almost flat month on month with a slight decline.
From January to April, Hoa Phat produced a total of 1.8 million tons of crude steel, a drop of 39% from the same period last year. The sales were about 1.8 million tons, declining by 34% year on year.
Vietnam’s scrap imports hit 10-year high in Mar
According to statistics, Vietnam’s scrap imports amounted to around 490,000 tons in March, falling by 19% compared to the preceding month but soaring by 67% from the year-ago level. This figure hit a ten-year high.Among them, the imports were mainly from Japan, totaling roughly 145,000 tons, followed by Hong Kong’s 40,700 tons and Colombia’s 19,000 tons.
