Vietnam’s imports of materials for animal feed production in first quarter
Friday, April 28,2023AsemconnectVietnam - The preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs showed that, corn imports in the first quarter of 2023 reached nearly 2.19 million tonnes, worth over 738.5 million USD, while soybean imports reached 498,647 tonnes, worth nearly 346 .58 million USD.
Also in the first quarter of 2023, the country's wheat imports reached 1.21 million tonnes, equivalent to over 444.71 million USD.
Vietnam’s corn imports in March and the first quarter of 2023
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s corn imports in the first quarter of 2023 reached nearly 2.19 million tonnes, worth of over 738.5 million USD, the average price was 337.6 USD/tonne, up by 4.8 % in volume, 9% in turnover and 4% in price compared to the first quarter of 2022.
In March alone, the country’s imports of corn reached 767,359 tonnes, equivalent to 260.65 million USD, the average price was 339.7 USD/tonne, an increase of over 20% in both volume and value compared to February of 2023, the price also increased by 0.6%. In comparison with March of 2022, the figure increased sharply by 48.8% in volume, 50.4% in turnover and 1.1% in price.
Leading corn import markets in March and the first three months of 2023
The main market supplying corn to Vietnam in the first quarter of 2023 was Brazil, accounting for over 55.5% of the total volume and 54.8% of the total corn import turnover of the country, reaching 1.21 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 404.69 million USD, priced at 333.5 USD/tonne, increased sharply by 292.6% in volume, 308.5% in turnover and 4% in price compared to the first quarter of 2022.
In March alone, the figure reached 393,397 tonnes, equivalent to 131.87 million USD, priced at 335.2 USD/tonne, an increase of nearly 5% in both volume and turnover, the price increased slightly by 0.1% compared with February of 2023. In comparison with March of 2022, it increased sharply by 467.3% in volume, 458.8 % in turnover, but the price decreased by 1.5%.
India ranked second. In the first quarter of 2023, it reached 422,841 tonnes, equivalent to 140.54 million USD, priced at 332.4 USD/tonne, accounting for over 19% of the total volume and total import turnover of corn of the whole country, down by 16.4% in volume, down by 9.8% in turnover, but the price increased slightly by 7.8% compared to the first quarter of 2022.
The next was the Argentine market. In the first quarter of 2023, the figure reached 405,962 tonnes, equivalent to 135.85 million USD, priced at 334.7 USD/tonne, accounting for over 18% of the total volume and total import turnover of corn of the whole country, a sharp decrease 58 % in volume, down by 57.4% in turnover but price increased by 1.5% over the same period last year.
Vietnam’s soybean imports in March and the first quarter of 2023
In the first quarter of 2023, Vietnam imported 498,647 tonnes of soybeans, worth of nearly 346.58 million USD, with the average price of 695 USD/tonne.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s soybean imports in March of 2023 reached 196,771 tonnes, equivalent to 133.25 million USD, the average price was 677.2 USD/tonne, down by 15.6% in volume and down by 20.3% of turnover compared to February of 2023, the price decreased by 5.6%. In comparison with March of 2022, the figure increased by 29.3% in volume, an increase of 27.4% in turnover but a decrease of 1.5% in price.
Totally in the first quarter of 2023, the whole country imported 498,647 tonnes of soybeans, worth of nearly 346.58 million USD, with an average price of 695 USD per tonne, down by 4.9% in volume, but up by 3.7% in turnover and up by 9% in price compared to the first quarter of 2022.
Leading soybean import markets in March and the first three months of 2023
The U.S was leading the list of the country’s main import markets of soybean. In March of 2023, the country’s imports of soybean from the U.S decreased by 22.7% in volume and 27.9% in turnover compared to February of 2023, the price decreased by 6.7%, reaching 119,120 tonnes, equivalent to 80.81 million USD, with the price of 678.4 USD/tonne. In general, in the first quarter of 2023, soybean imports from this market reached 329,874 tonnes, equivalent to 230.43 million USD, accounting for over 66% of the total soybean import volume and turnover of the whole country, a sharp increase of 59.3% in volume, up by 77.4% in turnover, and the price was up by 11.4% over the same period last year.
Soybean imports from Brazil - the second largest market in the first quarter of 2023 reached 135,084 tonnes, equivalent to 91.57 million USD, priced at 677.9 USD/tonne, accounting for over 27% of the total volume and accounting for 26.4% of the total soybean import turnover of the country, down sharply 51.8% in volume, down by 49% in value but the price increased by 5.8% over the same period last year.
The country’s soybean imports from the Canadian market in the first quarter of 2023 reached 27,122 tonnes, equivalent to 19.99 million USD, priced at 736.9 USD/tonne, down by 15.3% in volume, down by 5.6% in value but the price increased by 11.4% over the same period last year. ‘
Meanwhile, the imports from Cambodia market reached 270 tonnes, equivalent to 211,300 USD, priced at 782.6 USD/tonne, down by 94% in both volume and value but up by 7% in price.
Wheat imports in March and the first three months of 2023
In the first quarter of 2023, Vietnam’s wheat imports reached 1.21 million tonnes, equivalent to over 444.71 million USD, up by 14.8% in volume, up by 15.8% in turnover compared to the first quarter of 2022.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in March of 2023, the whole country imported 593,229 tonnes of wheat, equivalent to 215.37 million USD, the average price was 363 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 54.5% in volume, increased by 50.8% in turnover but decreased by 2.4% in price compared to February of 2023. In comparison to March of 2022, it also increased by 23.4% in volume, increased by 22.3% in turnover but decreased by 0.9% in price.
Totally in the first quarter of 2023, the country's wheat imports reached 1.21 tonnes, equivalent to over 444.71 million USD, up by 14.8% in volume, up by 15.8% in turnover compared to the same quarter of 2022, the average price reached 366.4 USD/tonne, up by 0.9%. In March of 2023, wheat imports from the main market, Australia increased sharply by 112.9% in volume and 109% in turnover, but decreased by 1.8% in price compared to February of 2023, reaching 477,225 tonnes, equivalent to 168.92 million USD, priced at 354 USD/tonne. In comparison with March of 2022, it also increased by 30.4% in volume, increased by 24.5% in turnover but slightly decreased by 4.5% in price. For the whole first quarter of 2023, wheat imports from the Australian market accounted for nearly 68% of the total volume and accounting for 65.4% of the total wheat import turnover of the country, reaching 814,288 tonnes, equivalent to 290.82 million USD, average price reached 357.2/tonne, up by 16.8% in volume, up by 14.2% in turnover but down by 2.2% in price compared to the first quarter of 2022.
Brazil accounted for nearly 22% of the total volume and total turnover, reaching 261,611 tonnes, equivalent to 95.82 million USD, the average price was 366.3 USD/tonne, a sharp increase in both volume, price turnover compared to the first quarter of 2022, with an increase of 36.2%, 47.3% and 8.2% respectively.
The US market followed with 72,319 tonnes, equivalent to 31.41 million USD, priced at 434.3 USD/tonne, down 6.8% in volume, down by 9.9% in turnover and down 3.4% in price compared to the first quarter of 2022, accounting for 6% of the total volume and 7% of the total import turnover of wheat of the country.
Wheat imports from the Canadian market reached 42,615 tonnes, equivalent to 18.25 million USD, increased sharply by 878% in volume and 797% in turnover compared to the first quarter of 2022.
