Rice exports increased sharply in both volume and value
Thursday, April 20,2023AsemconnectVietnam - In the first quarter of 2023, Vietnam exported 1.85 million tonnes of rice, equivalent to 981.39 million USD, up by 23.4% in volume, up by 34.3% in turnover compared to the first quarter of 2022.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in March of 2023, the whole country exported 961,608 tonnes of rice, equivalent to 508.97 million USD, the average price was 529.3 USD/tonne, up by 79.9% in volume and increased 77.9% in turnover but decreased slightly by 1.1% in price compared to February of 2023. In comparison with March of 2022, the figure also increased by 81% in volume, 93.6% in turnover and 7% in price.
In March of 2023, rice exports to the Philippines' main market increased sharply by 79.7% in volume and 74.9% in turnover compared to February of 2023, reaching 491,279 tonnes, equivalent to 245.74 million USD; and the figure also increased by 261.4 percent in volume, 295.2% in turnover, and 9.4% in price compared to March of 2022.
Vietnam’s exports of rice to the Chinese market in March of 2023 also increased sharply by 78.5% in volume and 77% in turnover compared to February of 2023, reaching 187,746 tonnes, equivalent to 109.06 million USD. In comparison with March of 2022, the figure also increased by 94.9% in volume, and by 118% in turnover.
For the whole first quarter of 2023, the country's rice exports reached over 1.85 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 981.39 million USD, up by 23.4% in volume, up by 34.3% in turnover compared to the previous quarter. In the first quarter of 2022, the average price reached 529 USD/tonne, up by 8.8%.
The Philippines still leading in Vietnam's rice consumption, accounting for 48.2% of the total volume and 45.9% of the country's total rice export turnover, reaching 893,254 tonnes, equivalent to 450.43 million USD, the price average 504.3 USD/tonne, up by 32.9% in volume, 44.8% in turnover and 9% in price compared to the first quarter of 2022.
It was followed by the Chinese market, accounted for 18.4% of the total volume and accounted for 20.3% of the total turnover, reaching 340,385 tonnes, equivalent to 199.07 million USD, the average price of 584.8 USD/tonne, up strongly by 91% in volume and increased 119.2% in turnover; prices increased 14.8% compared to the first quarter of 2022.
The Indonesian market ranked third with 148,587 tonnes, equivalent to 69.73 million USD, priced at 469.3 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 17,932% in volume and 17,663% in turnover but down by 1.5% in price compared to the first quarter of the first quarter of 2022, accounting for 8% of the total volume and 7% of the total rice export turnover of the country.
The exports to RCEP FTA markets reached 1.49 million tonnes, equivalent to 777.35 million USD, up by 54.3% in volume, up by 69% in turnover while the exports to FTA CPTTP markets reached 115,154 tonnes, equivalent to 60.3 million USD, down by 1.2% in volume but up by 4.5% in turnover. The exports to the Southeast Asian market reached 1.15 million tonnes, equivalent to 573.86 million USD, up by 46.8% in volume and by 57.8% in turnover.
