Wheat imports increased by 82.8% in 2021

AsemconnectVietnam - In 2021, Vietnam imported 4.67 million tonnes of wheat, worth of over 1.38 billion USD, with the average price of 295.3 USD/tonne.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in December of 2021, the whole country imported 244,473 tonnes of wheat of all kinds worth of 82.85 million USD, the average price was 338.9 USD/tonne, down by 29. 9% in volume, down by 28.3% in turnover but up by 2.3% in price compared to November of 2021. In comparison with December of 2020 the figure decreased by 23.5% in volume, decreased by 1.9% in value but increased by 28.2% in price.
For the whole year of 2021, the whole country imported 4.67 million tonnes of wheat, worth of over 1.38 billion USD, the average price was 295.3 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 59% in volume, up by 82.8% in value and increased by 14.9% in price compared with 2020.
Wheat imported mostly from the Australian market, accounting for 67.4% of the total volume and 68% of the total wheat import value of the country, with 3.15 million tonnes, equivalent to 3.15 million tonnes, equivalent to 940.43 million USD, priced at 298.7 USD /tonne, a very strong increase of 305.1 % in volume, an increase of 340% in value and an increase of 8.6% in price. In December of 2021 alone, the import of wheat decreased sharply by 52% in volume and 49.8% in value but increased by 4.6% in price compared to November of 2021, reaching 97,016 tonnes, equivalent to 36.1 million USD, the price was at 372 USD/tonne. In comparison to December of 2020, it also decreased sharply by 51% in volume, down by 31% in turnover, but the price increased by 40.8%.
In addition to Australia's main market, Vietnam also imported wheat from: Ukraine with 278,564 tonnes, equivalent to 80.89 million USD, up by 15.9% in volume, up by 45.9% in value compared to 2020; the imports from the US reached 200,788 tonnes, equivalent to 63.82 million USD, down by 62% in volume and 55.5% in value; while the imports from Brazil reached 229,518 tonnes, equivalent to 55 million USD, down by over 5% in both volume and turnover compared to 2020.
