Corn imports from Argentina decreased, from Brazil and India increased

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s imports of corn of all kinds in the first 8 months of 2023 reached over 5.35 million tonnes, worth of over 1.71 billion USD, the average price was 320.2 USD/tonne, down by 8.6% in volume, 18% decrease in turnover and 10.3% decrease in price compared to the first 8 months of 2022.

In August of 2023 alone, the figure reached 1.08 million tonnes, equivalent to 310.29 million USD, the average price 288.6 was USD/tonne, an increase of 80% in volume and 75.4% increase in turnover compared to July of2023, but the price decreased by 2.5%. In comparison to August of 2022, it also increased sharply by 50.7% in volume, increased by 19.9% in turnover but decreased by 20.5% in price.
Argentina was the largest market supplying corn to Vietnam in the first 8 months of 2023, accounting for over 36% of the country's total corn import volume and turnover, reaching 1.96 million tonnes, equivalent to over 619.69 million USD, the price was 316.4 USD/tonne, a sharp decrease of 45.7% in volume, a decrease of 52.6% in turnover and a decrease of 12.6% in price compared to the first 8 months of 2022.
The second largest market was Brazil, in the first 8 months of 2023, the country’s imports of corn from Brazil reached 1.72 million tonnes, equivalent to 559.46 million USD, the price was at 325.3 USD/tonne, accounting for over 32% of total corn import volume and turnover of the whole country, a sharp increase of 281% in volume, an increase of 272% in turnover but a slight decrease in price of 2.4% compared to the first 8 months of 2022.
The next was the Indian market. In the first 8 months of 2023, the country’s imports of corn from India reached 1.18 million tonnes, equivalent to 364.97 million USD, with the price of 309.7 USD/tonne, accounting for 22% of the total volume and 21.3% of the total import turnover of the country, increased by 74% in volume and 63.2% in turnover, but the price decreased by 6.2% over the same period last year.
