Imports of animal feed and materials increased in six months
Monday, July 16,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam imported US$372 million worth of animal feed and materials in June, increased slightly by 8.91 per cent over the previous month and by 12.96 per cent over the same month of last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In the first six months of this year, Vietnam spent nearly $2 billion on importing animal feed and materials, up by 11.9 per cent over the same period last year.
In the period, the country’s imports of animal feed and materials from Brazil reached $287 million, increased sharply by 322.55 per cent; from Belgium - $18 million, up by 159.61 per cent; from the U.S – over $321 million, up by 90.77 per cent; and from South Korea – over $24 million, up by 51.21 per cent year – on – year.

The leading wheat import markets in the first 6 months of this year were Russia with the market share of 47 per cent; Australia – 29 per cent; Canada – 8 per cent; the U.S – 6 per cent and Brazil – 3 per cent of the total.
In the first 6 months of this year, the imports of wheat from Russia increased by over 23 times in quantity and over 27 times in value, while the imports from the U.S increased by over 21 times in quantity and over 19 times in value.
Soybean: Vietnam’s imports of soybean reached 116,000 tons worth of over $52 million in June and over 836,000 tons worth of $365 million in the first 6 months of this year, decreased by 9.51 per cent in quantity and 8.93 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.
Corn: The imports of corn reached over 792,000 tons worth of $173 million in June and nearly 5 million tons worth of $985 million in the first 6 months of this year, increased by 34.39 per cent in quantity and 34.83 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.
Argentina and Brazil were the leading soybean import markets of Vietnam in the first 6 months of this year with 52 per cent and 10 per cent of the total market share, respectively.
