Imports of seafood from Philippines and Indonesia increased sharply
Tuesday, April 24,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s imports of seafood from the Philippines increased sharply by 115.8 per cent year – on – year in the first quarter of this year to US$ 2.26 million.
According to the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s imports of seafood in March increased by 35.8 per cent over the previous month and by 16.2 per cent over the same month of last year to US$ 133.99 million. The figure brought the country’s total imports of seafood in the first quarter of this year to nearly $ 406.46 million, up by 27.9 per cent year – on – year.
Vietnam imported seafood mostly from India, Norway, China, Taiwan and Japan. India was leading the list with $ 91.22 million, up by 13.5 per cent; then Norway - $ 44.42 million, up by 86.3 per cent; Taiwan - $ 28.66 million, up by 31.2 per cent; and China - $ 24.33 million, down by 11.5 per cent.
The imports of seafood from the South East Asian countries accounted for only 8 per cent of the total with $ 32.09 million, up by 48.8 per cent year – on – year.
In the first quarter of this year, Vietnam’s imports of seafood from the Philippines increased sharply by 115.8 per cent year – on – year to $ 2.26 million; from Indonesia – up by 100.3 per cent to $ 19.75 million; from Chile – up by 98.4 per cent to $ 21.77 million; from Norway – up by 83.6 per cent to $ 44.42 million; and from Malaysia – up by 82 per cent to $ 1.48 million.
However, the imports of seafood from Myanmar, Denmark, Singapore, and China decreased by 40.4 per cent; 38.3 per cent; 13.2 per cent; and 11.5 per cent, respectively over the same period of 2017.
