Japanese musicians to play Hennessy Concert
Wednesday, May 31,2017AsemconnectVietnam - Japan’s Miura Fumiaki, one of the most talented violinists of his generation, will perform at the Hanoi Opera House with renowned pianist Akira Eguchi on June 4.
The artists will play Antonin Dvorak’s Romance, Mozart’s Sonata for Violin and Piano, Igor Stravinsky’s Divertimento for Violin and Piano from the composer’s ballet The Fairy’s Kiss and Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No 10.
This will be the two artists’ first performance in Vietnam.
Since 1996, the Hennessy Concert Series has been held in Vietnam in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Performing Arts Department. Each year the series has produced sophisticated and diverse programmes showcasing the world’s most respected classical musicians.
Born in 1993 in Japan, violinist Fumiaka comes from a musical family. His father is a conductor and his sister is a pianist. He began to play the violin at the age of three. In 2008 he was admitted to the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo as one of the most promising talents. Since the beginning of the 2009-10 winter semester, he continued his studies at the Vienna Conservatory.
He was not only the 2009 First Prize Winner of the International Joseph Joachim Violin Competition in Hannover, Germany, but also won the Music Critics’ Prize and the Audience Prize. He is therefore not only the youngest winner in the history of the competition, but also the most decorated winner.
Fumiaka has performed with several of the world’s leading orchestra, including the NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, and Swiss Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne.
Notable recent highlights include debut performances with Warsaw Philharmonic, a tour of Japan with the Prague Philharmonia, and a performance of Polish Krzysztof Penderecki’s Double Concerto with Julian Rachlin, conducted by the composer himself in his 80th anniversary concert, where Fumiaka played the viola. He made Paris recital debuts at the Louvre and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. He will make his recital debut at London’s Wigmore Hall in June.
Pianist Fumiaka performs the violin on the J.B. Guadagnini (1748) on loan from Yellow Angel Foundation and the viola on the Storioni school "ex-Julian Rachlin" (1780) on loan from Nippon Violin.
Born in 1963, pianist Eguchi received a master of music in piano performance from Juilliard. Since making his highly acclaimed New York recital debut at Alice Tully Hall in 1992, Eguchi has performed in the foremost music centres in the US, Europe and the Far East.
He is also known as a collaborative pianist for renowned violinists such as Gil Shaham, Anne Akiko Mayers among the others. Currently he has recorded 45 disks including 11 solo albums most of which have been selected as the best newly released album of the month from Recording Arts magazines.
