Nearly 1,400 ironmen compete in Da Nang
Monday, May 8,2017AsemconnectVietnam - Almost 1,400 contestants from 59 countries and territories worldwide took part in the multisport Ironman competition in the central city of Da Nang on May 7.
Their racing events consisted of a 1.9km ocean swim near the Son Thuy beach, a two-loop 90km bike race and a 21km run along the coastline.
Last year’s winners Cyril Viennot and Caroline Steffen were also presented among competitors.
Along the Ironman 70.3, another triathlon, the Sunrise Sprint, in its Da Nang debut, treated athletes to a shorter course of 750m on the ocean, 20km on bikes and 5km on foot.
Sporty children, on May 6, found their playground in the beach city with the Ironkids race, which enabled them to run and participate in aquathlon. A 140m swim and 2km run course was designated for young athletes between 11 and 14 years old, while the routes for younger children from six to ten were reduced by half.
Thirty best athletes from all age groups will have a chance to join the 2017 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the US.
