AsemconnectVietnam - Deputy Minister Luong Hoang Thai calls for stronger business ties and trade promotion to boost trade cooperation between Viet Nam and Belarus.
On October 29, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), Deputy Minister Luong Hoang Thai held a meeting with Deputy Minister of Industry of Belarus Leonid Ryzhkovsky to discuss economic, trade and industrial cooperation between the two countries, as well as measures to advance bilateral ties in the coming period.
At the meeting, Deputy Minister Luong Hoang Thai spoke highly of the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Viet Nam and Belarus, affirming that Viet Nam attaches importance to strengthening economic, trade and industrial ties with Belarus on the basis of promoting each country's strengths and meeting their respective needs.
Regarding trade cooperation, the Deputy Minister noted that although economic and trade relations between the two countries had achieved positive results in recent years, bilateral import-export turnover remained modest and had yet to match the potential for cooperation between the two sides.
Statistics from the Viet Nam Customs showed that two-way trade between Viet Nam and Belarus reached approximately USD 80.8 million in 2025, up 35.1% from 2024. Of this, Viet Nam's exports to Belarus amounted to USD 26.6 million, down 4.6%, while imports from Belarus totalled USD 54.1 million, up 70.4%.
In the first nine months of 2026, the bilateral trade reached USD 89.67 million, marking a year-on-year increase of 77.7%. Viet Nam's exports to Belarus stood at USD 30.48 million, up 83.9%, while imports from the country reached USD 59.19 million, up 74.7%. Viet Nam recorded a trade deficit of USD 28.70 million with Belarus.
Viet Nam's main exports to Belarus currently include seafood, machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts, along with various other goods. Meanwhile, its imports from Belarus mainly comprise machinery, equipment, tools, spare parts, automotive components and other industrial products.
In the coming period, the Deputy Minister called on both sides to further strengthen coordination, step up trade promotion activities and business connectivity, and diversify their import and export product ranges, thereby promoting bilateral trade growth in a substantive and sustainable manner.
In the industrial sector, Deputy Minister Luong Hoang Thai highlighted Belarus's strengths and experience in mechanical engineering, machinery manufacturing, industrial equipment and specialized transport vehicles. These are areas with considerable potential for cooperation and are aligned with Viet Nam's industrial development needs and infrastructure modernization goals.
For his part, Deputy Minister of Industry of Belarus Leonid Ryzhkovsky expressed his desire to expand cooperation with Viet Nam in several specific areas, particularly the supply of heavy-duty BELAZ dump trucks for mining operations and medical equipment for hospitals and healthcare facilities. He also proposed promoting cooperation in the supply of ambulances and specialized medical equipment installed on ambulance vehicles.
Concluding the meeting, Deputy Minister Luong Hoang Thai affirmed that the MoIT of Viet Nam stood ready to maintain close coordination with the Ministry of Industry of Belarus, enhance information exchange, strengthen business connectivity and advance specific cooperation initiatives, thereby contributing to the increasingly substantive and effective development of economic, trade and industrial relations between Viet Nam and Belarus.
