AsemconnectVietnam - Between 2020 and 2025, bilateral import-export turnover between Quang Ninh enterprises and the Indonesian market surpassed $600 million, while tourist arrivals from Indonesia to Quang Ninh reached nearly 41,000 during the 2021–2025 period.
The Quang Ninh – Indonesia Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion Conference 2026 convened in Quang Ninh City on October 29 as part of the ongoing "Meet Indonesia 2026" event series, culminating in the signing of three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between universities from both nations, reported the online newspaper of Radio the Voice of Vietnam.
Vice Chairman of the Quang Ninh People’s Committee, Mr. Le Van Anh, said that the city consistently regards Indonesia as a key, high-potential strategic partner within ASEAN.
In March 2025, Vietnam and Indonesia formally elevated their bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. However, Quang Ninh currently hosts only a single direct investment project from Indonesia: the Thang Long Cement Plant, invested by PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk with a total capital outlay exceeding $352 million.
Between 2020 and 2025, bilateral import-export turnover between Quang Ninh enterprises and the Indonesian market surpassed $600 million, while tourist arrivals from Indonesia to Quang Ninh reached nearly 41,000 during the 2021–2025 period.
Mr. Anh proposed anchoring future bilateral cooperation along three core pillars: investment, tourism and trade.
Regarding investment, he noted that the locality prioritizes the circular economy, clean energy, and high technology, pledging to provide the highest statutory tier of investment incentives.
Highlighting that two-way trade remains well below its full potential, he said "Quang Ninh aims to serve as a strategic gateway and bridge to accelerate two-way trade in high-value commodities. We look forward to partnering with enterprises to build production and supply chains for Halal-certified agricultural, aquatic, and food products to serve the surging global Muslim consumer market."
H.E. Adam Mulawarman Tugio, Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam, noted that bilateral trade exceeded $14 billion in the first nine months of the year, tracking closely toward the joint target of $18 billion by 2028. According to the Ambassador, the question is no longer whether the two countries should cooperate, but how much more they can accomplish together.
Ambassador Tugio underscored that Quang Ninh is not only a major gateway for international trade via its deep-water port infrastructure, but also a locality rich in multifaceted economic synergies.
Mr. Ahmad Luthfi, Governor of Central Java Province, also held discussions with Quang Ninh authorities on fostering direct linkages between industrial parks and exploring ties.
During the conference, representatives from industrial park operators and local travel agencies pitched the city’s investment landscape and two-way tourism connectivity initiatives. Indonesian business delegations engaged in direct dialogue with the Quang Ninh Economic Zone Authority, the Department of Industry and Trade, and the local Business Association regarding regulatory mechanisms, statutory procedures, and industrial land availability.
