AsemconnectVietnam - General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse will pay a State visit to Denmark and official visit to the EU and Belgium from October 19-24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday.

The tour will be made at the invitations of King of Denmark Frederik X and the Queen, President of the European Council António Costa and Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever.
Viet Nam and Denmark set up diplomatic ties in 1971. This year, the two nations mark the 55th founding anniversary of their diplomatic ties.
In early November 2023, the two countries officially established Green Strategic Partnership, focusing on renewable energy, green transition, the environment and sustainable growth.
In 2025, two-way trade reached US$720.96 million. Viet Nam's exports to Denmark totaled US$426.53 million, down 4 percent, while imports from Denmark amounted to US$294.43 million, up 27 percent compared with 2024.
The EU and Viet Nam officially established diplomatic relations in November 1990.
Over the past 36 years, cooperation between the two sides has expanded into a wide range of areas, including trade, the environment, energy, science and technology, governance, cultural exchanges, migration, anti-corruption efforts, the fight against organized crime, and peace and security.
Viet Nam and the EU officially upgraded their relations into a Strategic Partnership in December 2020, and a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in January 2026.
Notably, following a decade of sustained efforts to advance bilateral ties, the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Viet Nam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) were signed on June 30, 2019. While the EVIPA is still awaiting ratification by some EU member states, the EVFTA officially entered into force on August 1, 2020, opening a new chapter in bilateral cooperation.
Viet Nam's trade with the EU member states maintained solid growth in 2025, with total two-way trade reaching US$73.8 billion. Viet Nam's exports to the EU amounted to US$56.2 billion, up 8.6 percent from 2024, while imports from the bloc totaled US$17.6 billion, an increase of 5.4 percent. The Southeast Asian nation recorded a trade surplus of US$38.6 billion with the EU for the year, up 10.1 percent year on year and the highest level ever recorded in trade with the bloc.
Meanwhile, Viet Nam and the Kingdom of Belgium established diplomatic relations in March 1973.
Over the past more than five decades, the two countries have maintained friendly relations and cooperation across various fields. Bilateral ties gained fresh momentum following the state visit to Viet Nam by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde in 2025.
The two-way trade value was estimated at US$4.7 billion in 2025./.
