Viet Nam seeks to advance toward FTSE’s Advanced Emerging Market status
Friday, October 2,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - Viet Nam will continue to improve the quality and standards of its market, sustainably maintain the criteria for Secondary Emerging Market status, while working toward meeting MSCI’s upgrade criteria and advancing to the Advanced Emerging Market category under the FTSE.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang made the above statement while addressing the 31st Asia Securities Forum (ASF) Annual General Meeting which took place in Ha Noi on October 1.
Nguyen highlighted the significance of the event as it marked the first time the ASF held in Viet Nam. Recently, the Vietnamese stock market has officially joined the FTSE's Secondary Emerging Market.
With a network of 30 member organizations from 23 countries and territories across Asia and Oceania, the ASF has provided a platform for its members to share information and management and operational experience, while discussing regional and cross-border issues.
Viet Nam expects to strengthen ties with countries, international organizations and ASF members, and stands ready to share its own experience while continuing to learn from good models, international standards and practices to enhance the quality of market development, shared the Deputy Prime Minister.
He expressed his hope that Viet Nam would have more opportunities to strengthen connections and cooperation with regional partners, thereby making a more active contribution to the development of Asian capital markets.
With the active and responsible participation of its members, the conference would feature substantive discussions and generate valuable initiatives and solutions to promote cooperation among markets, contributing to the stable and sustainable development of Asian financial markets, said Nguyen.
The conference was co-hosted by the Viet Nam Bond Market Association (VBMA) and the Viet Nam Association of Securities Business (VASB), in coordination with the Japan Securities Dealers Association (JSDA) – the permanent Secretariat of the ASF – and its member organizations./.
