AsemconnectVietnam - According to information from Hoa Phat Group (HPG), as of September 2026, the Hoa Phat Dung Quat Special Steel and Rail Manufacturing Plant project has completed nearly 70% of its progress. Currently, the project is being accelerated, focusing on completing the factory structure and installing technological equipment.

The Hoa Phat Dung Quat Special Steel and Rail Manufacturing Plant has a designed capacity of 700,000 tons/year and a total investment of over VND10,000 billion. The project uses technology lines from SMS Group (Germany), equipped with a flexible four-axis rolling mill system with high precision, meeting the most stringent standards in the world.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Duc, Deputy Head of the Project Management Board, said that they are focusing on parallel construction of many items, closely following the overall progress of the project. This is one of the current key tasks, aiming to fully prepare for the acceptance of the technological equipment system provided by SMS Group.
It is expected that from October 2026, the project will enter the peak phase of receiving, installing, adjusting, and testing the equipment under the supervision and technical coordination of SMS's expert team.
In parallel with accelerating the project's construction progress, Hoa Phat is also coordinating with SMS Group and the School of Materials Science - Hanoi University of Technology to organize training for engineers and technical personnel to quickly receive technology transfer and be ready to master production and operate the plant stably.
The plant's high-tech steel products include: high-speed rail rails, various types of urban rail steel, and crane rails. In addition, the plant also produces U, I, H, V shaped steel and many other special steels.
Hoa Phat Group stated that the steel rails it produces reach lengths of up to 100 meters, boasting high straightness, flatness, and superior rail rigidity. The group precisely controls rail geometry using laser and ultrasonic equipment to detect internal defects, ensuring perfect rail quality before market release.
The products comply with the world's most stringent standards, including EN 3674 (Europe), JIS E1101 (Japan), GB/T 2585 (China), and TB/T 2344 (China), meeting the rigorous technical requirements of the transportation and heavy industry sectors.
Hoa Phat expects to produce its first high-speed rail product in the first quarter of 2027, in time to serve key national railway projects.
