Export increase thanks to diversification of product groups
According to statistics from Gia Lai Department of Industry and Trade, in September 2026, the province's export turnover is estimated at US$282.9 million, bringing total export turnover for the first nine months to approximately US$2.94 billion, a 6.8% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
This result shows that Gia Lai's export activities continue to maintain growth momentum amidst a volatile international market and increasingly high demands for quality, traceability and production standards.
A notable point in the first nine months of this year is the shift in the province's export structure towards an increased proportion of processed products. Besides traditional agricultural products, the processed industrial sector continues to record significant growth.
In particular, wood and wood products are a group with significant growth. Wood export turnover in the first nine months is estimated at US$379.2 million, up 14.1%; wood products reached approximately US$406.21 million, up 19.1%. Textiles and garments reached US$364.54 million, up 15.9%, while plastic products reached US$192.69 million, up 40.4%.
In agricultural sector, several items also recorded strong growth. Cashew nuts reached over US$10.12 million, up 440.8%; concentrated passion fruit juice reached approximately US$35.91 million, up 305.7%. Cassava and cassava products reached US$56.17 million, an increase of 3.9%; animal products reached over US$56.17 million, an increase of 3.9%. Notably, seafood exports reached approximately US$147.71 million, a significant increase of 128% compared to the same period.
However, some key commodities are still facing market pressure. In the first nine months, coffee export reached approximately US$1.162 billion, a decrease of 10.4%; rice exports reached US$21.65 million, a decrease of 21.4%; and fruit and vegetable exports reached US$34.28 million, a decrease of 3.86%.
Despite decrease compared to the same period, coffee remains Gia Lai's largest export item, accounting for a significant proportion of the province's total export value. Behind this figure is process of enterprises and people gradually changing production methods, standardizing raw material areas and raising quality requirements to meet international market demands. Gia Lai currently has approximately 107,400 hectares of coffee plantations, ranking third nationwide in terms of area. Of this, over 56,690 hectares have received sustainable production certifications such as 4C, Rainforest Alliance and Organic…This is a significant advantage that helps businesses gradually meet increasingly stringent requirements of importing markets. By 2025, Gia Lai's coffee export value is expected to surpass US$1.5 billion for the first time, contributing to the province's total export value reaching approximately US$3.44 billion.
In an interview with Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Thai Nhu Hiep, Chairman of Board of Directors and Director of Vinh Hiep Co., Ltd., stated that as Vietnam plays an increasingly important role in the global coffee supply chain, enterprises must also adapt to the new demands of the market.
Mr. Thai Nhu Hiep stated that Vinh Hiep currently collaborates with over 10,000 farming households, developing raw material areas according to international standards such as 4C, Rainforest Alliance and organic. The company has built a sustainable coffee production network with an output of over 150,000 tonnes per year, exporting to more than 40 countries and territories, with European market accounting for approximately 60%.
“It’s time for Vietnamese Robusta to move beyond its role as a cheap raw material and become a new symbol of quality. To achieve this, enterprises must produce clean, transparent products that fully meet international standards to increase value instead of just competing on price,” Mr. Thai Nhu Hiep emphasized.
Besides Vinh Hiep, the province has many large-scale coffee export businesses such as Hoa Trang Gia Lai Import-Export Co., Ltd., Tropico Tay Nguyen Coffee Co., Ltd., Tin Thanh Dat Joint Stock Company, Louis Dreyfus Company Vietnam Trading and Processing Co., Ltd., etc. These enterprises are investing in warehouse systems, processing lines, and expanding their certified raw material areas to meet the requirements of each market.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Kha, Deputy Director of Gia Lai Department of Industry and Trade, said: "Gia Lai coffee is currently present in about 60 countries and territories, including demanding markets such as the European Union (EU), the United States and Japan. Effectively utilizing free trade agreements, along with standardizing raw material areas, investing in deep processing and building brands, is creating more room for this key industry to continue its breakthrough in the coming time".
Closely monitoring the market, opening up more export opportunities
According to Gia Lai Department of Industry and Trade, to maintain export growth momentum in the remaining months of the year, the industry will continue to closely monitor developments in export markets, while strengthening support for businesses in trade promotion, connecting goods consumption and updating market information.
One of key tasks is to provide early warnings of market risks and guide businesses to effectively utilize international economic integration commitments.
In the coming period, Department of Industry and Trade will also coordinate with Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) to organize a conference guiding the implementation of digital transformation activities for managers, businesses, cooperatives and business households in the province.
It is expected that in October 2026, the province will organize Import-Export and Border Trade Conference; and simultaneously coordinate organization of Border Trade Fair in the fourth quarter of 2026. In addition, Gia Lai will coordinate with Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) to advise Provincial People's Committee on issuing a plan to jointly organize Vietnam Logistics Forum 2026, thereby opening up more opportunities to connect import-export and logistics businesses and partners in supply chain.
Industry and Trade sector will also continue to advise on assessing the current state of trade infrastructure and propose a plan for developing trade infrastructure for the period 2026-2030; Closely monitor trade activities, market developments and import-export enterprises conditions to provide timely support to businesses.
