Strong growth in scale and efficiency
According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, the digital technology industry is entering a phase of robust growth in terms of scale, efficiency, and spillover impact. Statistics indicate that in September of 2026, the industry's revenue reached an estimated VND 770.766 trillion, a 36% increase year-on-year. In the first nine months of the year, total revenue stood at approximately VND 5,387.142 trillion, up by 32.1%.
Notably, the industry's revenue scale expanded significantly within just one year; revenue for the first nine months of 2025 was approximately VND 3,749 trillion, meaning revenue grew by about VND 1,638 trillion over the year. Beyond the increase in scale, the growth rate also accelerated: while revenue rose by 29.6% in the first nine months of 2025, it grew by 32.1% during the same period in 2026, an increase of approximately 2.5 percentage points.
Additionally, in the first nine months of 2026, the export value of hardware and electronics was estimated at USD 175.62 billion, up by 34.7% compared to the same period of 2025. In September of 2026 alone, exports in this sector reached approximately USD 25.1 billion, a 39% increase. For comparison, in the same period of 2025, the exports in this category totaled approximately USD 129.3 billion, marking a 30% rise. Thus, over the course of a year, export value increased by approximately USD 46.3 billion, while the growth rate rose by nearly 5 percentage points.
Additionally, in the first nine months of 2026, the digital technology industry contributed an estimated VND 69,730 billion to the state budget, a 34% increase compared to the same period of 2025. In September alone, the budget contribution reached approximately VND 10,215 billion, also up by 34%.
There are currently around 82,723 active digital technology enterprises nationwide. The sector's scope for development has also expanded, with 14 concentrated information technology parks established, expanded, or officially recognized across the country. All 34 localities have issued plans to develop digital technology enterprises. Notably, 11 of these localities generate annual digital technology revenues exceeding USD 1 billion. Throughout 2026, digital technology has been increasingly integrated into the operations of state agencies. Artificial intelligence platforms supporting public service tasks have been deployed across all 17 ministries and central agencies and all 34 localities, resulting in the creation of 35,517 user accounts.
These figures demonstrate that the digital technology industry is maintaining a high growth rate. At the same time, electronic products, hardware, and technology are playing an increasingly vital role in Vietnam's exports. Underlying these substantial export figures is a network of factories in Vietnam manufacturing phones, computers, electronic components, and technological devices. Alongside foreign investment inflows, a growing number of domestic enterprises are also participating in the technology supply chain. A Catalyst for Developing the Digital Technology Industry
Resolution No. 29-NQ/TW on continuing to accelerate national industrialization and modernization through 2030, with a vision to 2045, clearly outlines the need to expedite the institutionalization of Party resolutions and conclusions regarding industrialization and modernization. Priority is placed on formulating and refining specialized legal frameworks for national industrial development and specific industrial sectors, such as digital technology, defense and security industries, and energy.
Resources and sufficiently robust incentive mechanisms and policies are to be prioritized for the development of key sectors within foundational industries: metallurgy (prioritizing alloy and specialty steels for next-generation machinery manufacturing, particularly for defense and security); mechanical engineering (prioritizing machinery for agricultural production, automobiles, shipbuilding, construction equipment, energy equipment, electrical equipment, and medical devices); chemicals (prioritizing basic chemicals, petrochemicals, pharmaceutical chemicals, and fertilizers); energy (prioritizing renewable and new energy industries); materials (prioritizing new materials); and digital technology (prioritizing artificial intelligence, big data, blockchain, cloud computing, the Internet of Things, electronics and telecommunications equipment, and semiconductor chip design and manufacturing).
Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation sets a goal for Vietnam to rank among the top three Southeast Asian nations in artificial intelligence research and development by 2030, and to become a development hub for specific digital technology industrial sectors where the country holds a competitive advantage. At least five digital technology enterprises will be on par with those of advanced nations.
By 2045, Vietnam aims to become a regional and global hub for the digital technology industry and rank among the world's top 30 nations in innovation and digital transformation.
