Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports saw strong growth in key markets
Wednesday, September 23,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports continued to maintain strong growth momentum. In August of 2026, export turnover was estimated at US$1.37 billion, up by 27.6% from July of 2026 and 44.5% from the same period of 2025.
In the first eight months of 2026, the country’s total export turnover reached an estimated US$6.15 billion, a 27.7% increase year-on-year. This marked the second consecutive month that export turnover has surpassed the US$1 billion mark, signaling a sustained positive growth trend amidst continued high demand in key markets.
In August of 2026, China remained Vietnam's largest market for fruits and vegetables, with export turnover reaching US$1.0 billion, an increase of 36.9% from the previous month and 56.4% from the same period of 2025. The total exports to this market over the first eight months of 2026 totaled US$3.8 billion, up by 38.7% year-on-year and accounting for 63.0% of the country's total fruit and vegetable export value. The key export products included durian, dragon fruit, bananas, jackfruit, mangoes, and processed passion fruit.
During August of 2026, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) approved an additional 401 growing area codes and 166 packing facility codes for Vietnamese fresh durian. As of early September 2026, the country had a total of 1,599 growing area codes and 281 packing facilities recognized for durian exports to China. The expansion in the number of recognized growing area codes and packing facilities facilitates increased supply capacity and the expansion of durian exports to this market.
The United States remained Vietnam's second-largest export market, with a turnover of $66.8 million in August 2026, a 3.1% decrease from the previous month but a 40.8% increase compared to the same period of 2025. The total exports to the U.S. in the eight-month period reached $427.9 million, up by 17.8% and accounting for 7.0% of the country's total fruit and vegetable export value.
South Korea ranked third, with exports reaching $31.6 million in August of 2026, up by 1.9% from the previous month and 10.7% from the same period of 2025. The total exports to this market over the eight-month period totaled $233.0 million, an increase of 9.8%, representing 3.8% of the national total for fruit and vegetable exports.
Regarding the EU market, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports in August of 2026 reached $32.3 million, down by 3.4% from the previous month and 2.2% from the same period of 2025. However, the total exports to the EU over the eight-month period reached $279.7 million, up by 25.8% year-on-year and accounting for 4.5% of the country's total fruit and vegetable export value.
Within the EU, the Netherlands was the largest importer of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables; accumulated exports over the eight-month period reached $152.3 million, a 38.2% increase year-on-year, accounting for 54.5% of total exports to the EU. The next was Germany, with exports reaching US$78.8 million, a 43.1% increase, accounting for a 28.2% share, while France accounted for 14.3% of Vietnam's total fruit and vegetable exports to the EU.
Overall, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports maintained positive growth momentum during the first eight months of 2026, with export values rising across most key markets. China continued to serve as the primary driver and accounted for a significant share of total exports, while the United States, South Korea, and the EU continued to record solid growth. However, the high concentration in a few markets indicates a certain level of dependency; therefore, maintaining markets with strong growth rates while simultaneously diversifying and expanding into new markets will help enhance the stability and sustainability of fruit and vegetable exports in the future.
