Viet Nam officially joins FTSE Global Equity Index Series
Monday, September 21,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - A conference took place in Ha Noi on September 18 to mark Viet Nam’s entry into the FTSE Global Equity Index Series (FTSE GEIS), a milestone in its capital market integration.
The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Finance and the State Securities Commission, in coordination with FTSE Russell.
The conference takes place ahead of the official effective date of Viet Nam's stock market upgrade from Frontier Market to Secondary Emerging Market status under the FTSE Russell classification, effective from September 21, 2026.
This marks an important milestone in the development of Viet Nam's stock market after 30 years of establishment and growth. The market has gradually strengthened its components, legal framework, and technological infrastructure, while also improving market accessibility for both domestic and international investors.
Addressing the event, Minister of Finance Ngo Van Tuan said, Viet Nam is striving to establish itself as a dynamic and attractive investment destination with strong potential for investors in the region and around the world.
Viet Nam's upgrade and inclusion in FTSE Russell's global index series are recognition of the market's progress, while also demonstrating the nation's increasingly deep integration with international capital markets, he emphasized.
Meanwhile, FTSE Russell CEO Fiona Bassett noted that Viet Nam's upgrade and inclusion in global index series will enhance the country's standing in the eyes of international investors, creating conditions for attracting global capital flows in the coming period.
FTSE Russell currently has approximately US$20 trillion in assets globally benchmarked against its index series. Therefore, Viet Nam's upgrade not only recognizes the achievements made to date but also enhances the visibility of the Vietnamese market within the international investment community.
FTSE Russell is committed to working alongside Viet Nam, helping strengthen its international standing, promote long-term investment flows, and support the nation on its economic development journey over the coming decades, she stated./.
