FDI into Vietnam surged in 8 months of 2026

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the data from the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance), the total registered foreign direct investment (FDI) in Vietnam reached US$40.63 billion in the first eight months of 2026, a year-on-year increase of 55.4%.
Notably, while the number of new projects rose by only 9.4%, registered capital surged by 96.8%. During this period, Vietnam licensed 2,771 new FDI projects with a combined capital of US$21.72 billion. The processing and manufacturing sector continued to lead, attracting US$12.15 billion and accounting for 55.9% of total newly registered capital. This was followed by the electricity, gas, water, and air conditioning production and distribution sector, with US$3.13 billion.
In addition to new projects, 819 existing projects registered capital increases totaling US$12.21 billion, a rise of 14.7%. Combining new registrations and capital adjustments, the processing and manufacturing sector attracted US$20.18 billion, representing 59.5% of the total. Beyond the rise in registered capital, realized FDI during the eight-month period was estimated at US$17.25 billion, up by 12% and marking the highest level for this period in the past five years. The processing and manufacturing sector alone accounted for US$14.24 billion, or 82.6% of the total.
