Total import and export turnover in the first 8 months reached US$770.14 billion

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 8 months of 2026, total import and export turnover of the whole country reached US$770.14 billion, the highest level for the first 8 months ever.
Statistics Department of Ministry of Finance has just announced report on socio-economic situation in August and the first 8 months of 2026, with import and export continuing to be a bright spot of the economy.
Accordingly, in August, total import and export turnover of goods reached US$109.7 billion, a decrease of 0.1% compared to the previous month and an increase of 31.7% compared to the same period last year. In the first eight months of 2026, total value of goods exports and imports reached US$770.14 billion, the highest eight-month figure ever recorded, representing a 28.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
Specifically regarding goods export, export value in August reached US$54.79 billion, a 3.2% increase compared to the previous month. For the first eight months of 2026, total export value reached US$374.84 billion, a 22.4% increase compared to the same period last year. Of this, domestic economic sector accounted for US$74.47 billion, a 7.4% increase, representing 19.9% of total export; foreign-invested sector (including crude oil) accounted for US$300.37 billion, a 26.9% increase, representing 80.1%.
In the first eight months of 2026, 33 product categories achieved export turnover exceeding US$1 billion, accounting for 93.6% of total export turnover (with 7 product categories exceeding US$10 billion, accounting for 70.0%).
Processed industrial goods group continued to hold the top position in export structure, reaching US$337.99 billion, accounting for 90.2% of the total; agricultural and forestry products group reached US$26.65 billion, accounting for 7.1%; aquatic products group reached US$8.0 billion, accounting for 2.1%; and fuel and mineral products group reached US$2.2 billion, accounting for 0.6%.
Regarding import, import turnover of goods in August reached US$54.91 billion, a decrease of 3.1% compared to the previous month. In the first eight months of 2026, total merchandise imports reached US$395.3 billion, a 35.3% increase compared to the same period last year. Of this, domestic economic sector accounted for US$105.07 billion, a 23.7% increase, while foreign-invested sector accounted for US$290.23 billion, a 40.1% increase.
During the first eight months of 2026, 43 imported items exceeded US$1 billion in value, accounting for 93.9% of total imports (three items exceeded US$10 billion, accounting for 55.5%). Group of production materials continued to be actively imported by enterprises to meet production needs during the peak season, reaching US$372.04 billion, accounting for 94.1% of total imports.
Regarding import and export market for goods in the first eight months of 2026, the United States was Vietnam's largest export market with a turnover of US$122.0 billion. China was Vietnam's largest import market with a turnover of US$161.9 billion.
