AsemconnectVietnam - In August of 2026 alone, Vietnam’s imports of computers and components totaled US$25.61 billion, up by 1.1% from the previous month and surging by 80.41% year-on-year.

This sharp year-on-year increase indicates a continued strong demand for imported components, equipment, and raw materials for domestic electronics manufacturing, aligning with the expansion of production and exports in the technology sector.
For the first eight months of 2026, total import value reached US$161.63 billion, a 68.32% increase compared to the same period last year. The import growth rate significantly outpaced that of exports for this category (which rose by 51.12%), suggesting that while the electronics industry is scaling up production, it remains heavily reliant on imported materials, components, and equipment. This trend also reflects the rapidly rising demand for inputs to fulfill export orders and the expansion of the electronics manufacturing supply chain in Vietnam.
The country’s imports of computers and components are surging and are expected to remain high during the final months of the year as electronics production and exports enter their peak season. However, the substantial rise in imports also highlights significant room for improving localization rates and developing supporting industries. Attracting high-tech investment, fostering domestic component suppliers, and increasing domestic value-added content will be crucial factors in enhancing the industry's export performance in the near future. China remained the largest supplier; in the first seven months of 2026, the imports from China reached US$49.45 billion, a 72.97% increase, accounting for 36.42% of the total import value, up from 34.93% during the same period of 2025. South Korea ranked second with US$36.76 billion (up by 78%), representing a 27.07% share, followed by Taiwan with US$22.15 billion (up by 74.77%), accounting for 16.31%. Collectively, these three markets (China, South Korea, and Taiwan) accounted for approximately 79.8% of Vietnam's total imports of computers and components, indicating a high level of supply concentration.
The ASEAN region remained a significant source of supply, with imports reaching US$7.43 billion in the first seven months of 2026, an increase of 56.64%, representing 5.47% of the total imports.
