Exports of computers and components and prospects for last months of 2026
Wednesday, September 9,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s exports of computers, electronic products, and components are currently a key driver of Vietnam's export growth in 2026.
This growth is primarily fueled by global demand for computers, electronic devices, components, and products supporting AI and data centers, amidst continued acceleration in technology and digital infrastructure investment.
In August of 2026, Vietnam’s export value of computers and components reached US$15.85 billion, up by 13.39% from the previous month and surging by 55.93% year-on-year. These significant month-on-month and year-on-year increases indicate robust international demand for computers and electronic components, while also reflecting the expansion of Vietnam's production and export capabilities in the electronics sector.
In the first eight months of 2026, the country’s total export value reached US$101.05 billion, a sharp increase of 51.12% compared to the same period last year. This substantial growth highlights the role of computers and components as a vital engine of export expansion, outpacing the growth rates of many other key export categories. These results also demonstrate that Vietnam continues to benefit from the trend of expanding electronics supply chains and global demand for high-tech products.
The United States remained the largest export market; in the first seven months of 2026, the country’s exports of computers and components to the US reached US$33.57 billion, a 50.97% increase, accounting for 39.42% of the total export value for this category. China ranked second, with US$14.31 billion, up by 50.20% and representing a 16.81% share. Meanwhile, the exports to Hong Kong reached US$7.89 billion, an increase of 37.84%, accounting for 9.27% of the total. Together, these three markets alone represent approximately 65.5% of the total export value, indicating that exports remain heavily concentrated in a few key markets.
Overall, Vietnam's export performance for computers and components during the first seven months of 2026 was highly positive, with strong growth across most regions. The United States continued to serve as the primary driver, while the EU, ASEAN, Japan, and various emerging markets are experiencing rapid growth, thereby contributing to market diversification. However, market concentration remained significant, as the United States, China, and Hong Kong account for over 65% of the total export value. Consequently, future efforts must focus on further diversifying markets and leveraging Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), particularly the EVFTA, CPTPP, and RCEP, while intensifying trade promotion in new markets to mitigate the risks associated with over-reliance on a few major destinations.
