Market trends for animal feed and raw material exports and imports

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first seven months of 2026, Vietnam’s exports of animal feed and raw materials reached US$1,220 million (up by 64.6%), primarily to China (55.3%), Cambodia, and Malaysia.
Conversely, while the imports totaled US$2,639.7 million (down by 1.2%), with the largest volumes coming from Argentina, the United States, and China. As of August 15, 2026, cumulative exports stood at US$1,313.8 million, while cumulative imports reached US$2,840.3 million.
Regarding exports, in the first half of August 2026, the export value of animal feed and raw materials reached US$93.8 million. The cumulative export value from the beginning of the year through August 15, 2026, totaled US$1,313.8 million.
According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s exports of animal feed and raw materials in July of 2026 reached US$210.4 million, an increase of 0.7% compared to the previous month. In the first seven months of 2026, the country’s total exports of animal feed and raw materials reached US$1.22 billion, an increase of 64.6% compared to the same period of 2025.
China was the largest importer of animal feed and raw materials during this seven-month period, accounting for 55.3% of the country's total export value for this category; exports to China reached US$674.5 million, up by 108.8% year-on-year.
Cambodia ranked second, accounting for 11.4% of the total export value with US$139.4 million, an increase of 45.4% compared to the same period of 2025.
Malaysia followed with nearly US$71.7 million, up 13% year-on-year, representing 5.9% of the country's total exports in this category.
Additionally, the exports of animal feed and raw materials to several other markets saw significant growth, including Thailand, the Philippines, Laos, India, Taiwan, and Japan, with increases of 61.8%, 115.8%, 23.2%, 20.4%, and 15.6%, respectively.
Regarding imports, in the first half of August 2026, the country’s import value of animal feed and raw materials reached US$201 million. The accumulated import value from the beginning of the year through August 15, 2026, totaled US$2.84 billion.
Previously, in July of 2026, Vietnam’s imports of animal feed and raw materials amounted to US$404.9 million, a decrease of 16.3% compared to the previous month. In the first seven months of the year, the country’s total imports of animal feed and feed ingredients reached US$2,639.7 million, a decrease of 1.2% compared to the same period of 2025.
In the first seven months of 2026, Argentina remained Vietnam's largest supplier of animal feed and feed ingredients, with a value of US$583.8 million, down by 44.5% year-on-year, accounting for 22.1% of the country's total import value for this category.
The United States ranked second, accounting for a 19.6% share with an import value of US$516.3 million, an increase of 15.5% compared to the same period of 2025.
China followed with an import value of US$316.9 million, representing 12% of the national total and marking a 59.5% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
Notably, while some markets accounted for smaller import values, they experienced dramatic growth rates compared to the same period of 2025. Examples include India (up by 96.5%), Canada (up by 151.1%), Spain (up by 74.1%), Germany (up by 136.5%), Singapore (up by 113.9%), and Italy (up by 145.8%).
