Vietnam-US trade saw breakthrough growth

AsemconnectVietnam - In July of 2026, the two-way trade in all goods between Vietnam and the United States reached US$20.45 billion, an increase of 7.59% compared to June of 2026 and 28.84% compared to the same period in July of 2025.

Specifically, Vietnam's exports to the US reached nearly US$18.4 billion, while imports from this market totaled US$2.06 billion; consequently, Vietnam recorded a trade surplus of US$16.3 billion with the US market, up by 30.2% year-on-year.
Regarding industrial goods, the total two-way trade turnover for this category between Vietnam and the US reached US$18.46 billion in July of 2026, up by 8.43% from June of 2026 and by 29.65% from July of 2025. Of this, Vietnam's exports of industrial goods to the US amounted to US$16.7 billion, while tge imports from the US totaled US$1.7 billion. Thus, Vietnam's trade surplus in industrial goods with the US market reached nearly US$14.9 billion in July of 2026, an increase of 29.65% compared to the same period of 2025.
Regarding exports, according to the customs data, Vietnam's total export turnover to the US market in July of 2026 reached nearly US$18.4 billion, up by 8.62% from June of 2026 and by 29.44% from July of 2025. Notably, the export value of Vietnam's industrial goods to the US market in July of 2026 rose by 8.9% compared to June of 2026 and by 29.65% compared to the same period of 2025.
In the first seven months of 2026, the total export value of Vietnam's industrial goods to this market reached nearly US$94.46 billion, an increase of 22.59% compared to the same period of 2025. The exports of industrial goods to the US are forecast to remain positive in the near future; however, emphasis must be placed on improving the quality of growth, diversifying products and markets, and proactively addressing trade barriers.
The composition of Vietnam's industrial exports to the US market underwent significant changes in the first seven months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025: exports increased for categories such as computers, electronic products, and components, as well as machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts; conversely, the share of items such as textiles and garments, telephones and components, and wood and wood products declined.
Regarding imports, according to the customs data, Vietnam's imports from the US market in July of 2026 totaled US$2.06 billion, down by 0.82% from June of 2026 but up by 23.7% from July of 2025. Specifically, imports of industrial goods from the US in July of 2026 reached US$1.74 billion, an increase of 4.19% compared to June of 2026 and 29.65% compared to July of 2025. In July of 2026, the imports of several key industrial products into Vietnam from the United States generally increased compared to the same period of 2025. Notable items among these imports included computers, electronic products and components; various types of cotton; machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts; animal feed and raw materials; wood and wood products; and chemicals.
