Vietnam's paper product import market structure and role of FDI sector

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's paper product imports in August of 2026 were estimated at US$103.66 million, a decrease of 6.47% compared to July of 2026 and 11.71% compared to August of 2025.

In the first eight months of 2026, the country's total import value of paper products reached an estimated US$722.85 million, up by 2% year-on-year.
Previously, Vietnam's paper product imports in July of 2026 stood at US$103.66 million, down by 6.5% from June of 2026 and 11.71% from July of 2025. The total import value for the first seven months of 2026 reached US$722.86 million, a 2.0% increase compared to the same period of 2025.
The imports of paper products by the FDI sector in July of 2026 amounted to US$78.7 million, down by 6.48% from June of 2026 and 14.69% from July of 2025. The total import value for this sector in the first seven months of 2026 reached US$540.86 million, up by 1.33% year-on-year, accounting for 74.82% of the country's total paper product imports (a decrease from the 75.32% share recorded in the same period of 2025).
Regarding import markets, Vietnam imported paper products mostly from China; the total import value for the first seven months of 2026 reached US$545.84 million, a 3.08% increase year-on-year and accounting for 75.51% of the country's total imports of this commodity (up by from 74.72% during the same period of 2025).
ASEAN ranked as the second-largest import market for paper products, with a total value of US$68.88 million for the first seven months of 2026, a 0.38% year-on-year decline, representing a 9.53% share (down from 9.76% in the same period of 2025).
Other key markets include South Korea (4.36%), Japan (3.96%), Taiwan (1.52%), the United States (1.39%), Hong Kong (0.97%), and Germany (0.31%). In addition to China, the imports of paper products from markets such as the United States, Malaysia, and Singapore also recorded significant growth compared to the same period of 2025.
