Saturday, August 22,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s crude steel production in the first seven months of 2026 rose by 28% to 17.92 million tonnes, significantly outpacing the growth rates of the manufacturing sector and the industrial sector as a whole.
Positive growth recorded
According to the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA), Vietnam’s crude steel production reached 17.92 million tonnes in the first seven months of 2026, a 28% increase year-on-year. This growth rate far exceeded the general growth of the manufacturing sector (approximately 12%) and the industrial sector overall (11.4%).
Regarding finished steel products, the total production volume for the seven-month period reached 21.4 million tonnes, up by 15.4% compared to the same period of 2025. The consumption of finished steel also showed positive results, reaching 21.186 million tonnes, a 15.6% year-on-year increase.
While the overall picture reflected positive growth driven by construction steel and hot-rolled coil (HRC), the market remained uneven. Coated steel sheets and cold-rolled steel experienced declines in both production and consumption; specifically, the production of coated steel sheets fell by 13.5%, and cold-rolled steel by 10.2%.
In terms of market structure, ASEAN remained the largest export market for Vietnamese steel, accounting for a 31.33% share. Other key markets included the European Union (17.5%), the United States (13.64%), Brazil (8.14%), and India (6.18%). In July alone, the industry's total finished steel production reached 3.1 million tonnes, an increase of 16.8% compared to July of 2025. Notably, sales volume for finished steel hit 3.2 million tonnes, surging by 24.2% year-on-year.
