AsemconnectVietnam - According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s imports of completely built-up (CBU) automobiles in July of 2026 showed positive growth, with a total volume of 27,686 units valued at US$597.25 million.
This represents an increase of 8.1% in volume and 3.1% in value compared to June of 2026, and a rise of 47.56% in volume and 40.79% in value compared to July of 2025. The average import price in July of 2026 was US$21,572 per unit, a slight decrease of 4.61% from June of 2026 and 4.59% from July of 2025.
In the first 7 months of 2026, Vietnam imported a total of 148,696 CBU automobiles valued at US$3.46 billion, marking increases of 22.40% in volume and 30.3% in value compared to the same period of 2025. The average import price for the seven-month period was US$23,241 per unit, up by 6.41% year-on-year.
ASEAN maintained its position as Vietnam's largest source of CBU automobile imports. In July of 2026, the country’s imports of automobiles from this region totaled 21,231 units valued at US$369.77 million, an increase of 12.97% in volume and 16.16% in value compared to June 2026; compared to July of 2025, the volume surged by 65.48% and the value rose by 56.75%. In the first seven months of 2026, the imports from the ASEAN market totaled 101,936 units valued at US$1.71 billion, marking increases of 16.81% in volume and 16.77% in value compared to the same period in 2025. ASEAN accounted for 68.55% of Vietnam's total automobile imports during the seven-month period (a decrease from the 71.83% share recorded in the first seven months of 2025).
Specifically, Indonesia was the largest source of automobile imports for Vietnam, with 12,137 units imported in July of 2026 (up by 4.56% from June of 2026 and 96.68% from July of 2025); the seven-month total reached 61,855 units (valued at US$876.27 million), representing increases of 36.6% in volume and 35.88% in value, and a market share of 41.60% (an increase from the 37.27% share in the first seven months of 2025). The imports from Thailand totaled 9,094 units in July of 2026 (up by 26.55% from June of 2026 and 36.57% from July of 2025); the seven-month total reached 40,081 units (valued at US$836.23 million), reflecting a 4.54% drop in volume but a 1.77% rise in value, accounting for a 26.95% share (down from 34.56% in the first seven months of 2025). China was the second-largest automobile supplier to Vietnam with the imports in July of 2026 totaled 5,091 units valued at $168.15 million, a decrease of 10.67% in volume and 21.17% in value compared to June of 2026, but an increase of 16.61% in volume and 21.67% in value compared to July of 2025. The import unit price in July of 2026 was $33,028 per vehicle, down by 11.76% from June of 2026. The decline in July imports represents a short-term adjustment following a period of accelerated customs clearance in the second quarter. Cumulatively, in the first seven months of 2026, Vietnam’s automobile imports from China reached 39,697 units valued at $1.41 billion, increased by 45.81% in volume and 60.25% in value year-on-year, accounting for 26.7% of the country's total automobile imports (up by from 22.41% during the same period of 2025).
Notably, automobile imports from India saw a surge from a very low baseline in the same period of 2025 (rising 59,000% in volume and 6,680.5% in value). The average unit price of just $5,215 indicates that this market primarily supplies low-cost vehicle models or specific component parts.
