Vietnam's exports to Canada in 7 months of 2026: Growth drivers and outlook

 Wednesday, August 19,2026

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the statistics figures from the Customs Department, Vietnam's goods exports to the Canadian market in July of 2026 reached a turnover of US$892.5 million, an increase of 8.05% compared to June of 2026 and 12.9% compared to the same month last year.

Overall, the first seven months of 2026 recorded impressive growth, with total export turnover exceeding US$5.05 billion, a 20.42% rise year-on-year and reflecting a strong recovery momentum and stable consumer demand in the North American market.
This breakthrough growth was largely driven by processed industrial goods and high-tech products. During this seven-month period, the leading category was machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts, reaching US$733.3 million (up by 54.92%), followed by computers, electronic products, and components at US$715.18 million (up by 44.52%), and other goods at US$696.91 million (up by 46.48%), chemicals (up by 135.09%) and cashew nuts (up by 54.09%) also recorded significant growth.
The primary driver behind the exceptional growth of technology and manufacturing sectors is the advantage provided by the CPTPP agreement, of which both Vietnam and Canada are members, which helps minimize tariff barriers. Additionally, Canada is actively diversifying its supply chains away from China and increasing its demand for electronic equipment and machinery to support production and digital transformation. Furthermore, improvements in quality, specifically meeting rigorous technical standards, have significantly boosted the competitiveness of Vietnamese electronics, components, and chemicals.
Conversely, certain traditional export items have experienced declines or sluggish growth. Notably, coffee exports dropped by 45.7% (reaching only US$21.05 million); handbags, wallets, suitcases, hats, and umbrellas fell by 14.64%; cameras and camcorders decreased by 13.08%; and textiles and garments saw a slight decline of 1.22%.
The exports to Canada are forecast to maintain solid growth momentum through the final months of 2026, potentially reaching a total annual value of US$8.5–9 billion. Electronics, machinery, and components will remain key growth drivers, fueled by a surge in orders for the year-end peak shopping season. However, Vietnamese enterprises must remain mindful of trade defense measures, strict rules of origin, and sustainability (ESG) requirements to secure and maintain their market share in this high-potential market.
