Coffee continues to hold a 'king' position in Gia Lai province's export

 Monday, August 10,2026

AsemconnectVietnam - After 7 months of 2026, coffee export turnover reached nearly 976.5 million USD, continuing to be the main commodity, contributing more than 41% of Gia Lai's total export turnover.

Approaching 1 billion USD mark after 7 months
Coffee continues to affirm its position as Gia Lai's main export industry by maintaining a high turnover scale and playing a leading role in the province's export growth. According to statistics, in July 2026, Gia Lai's coffee export turnover is estimated at US$66.18 million. For the first seven months of 2026, this commodity reached approximately US$976.45 million, very close to the US$1 billion mark.
With these results, coffee accounts for about 41.5% of the province's total export turnover, continuing to be the largest contributor to export structure. This is also an important foundation for Gia Lai to aim for export growth in 2026.
Not only maintaining a large export scale, Gia Lai's coffee industry is also gradually shifting from exporting raw materials to increasing added value through deep processing, developing standardized raw material areas, and expanding consumer markets.
Gia Lai currently has about 107,400 hectares of coffee, ranking third nationwide in terms of area. Of that, more than 56,690 hectares have been granted sustainable production certifications such as 4C, Rainforest Alliance, Organic…This is a significant advantage that helps businesses meet the increasingly stringent requirements of import markets. In 2025, Gia Lai's coffee export turnover will exceed US$1.5 billion for the first time, contributing to the province's total export turnover reaching US$3.44 billion.
Promoting deep processing and increasing value of coffee beans
Besides advantage of raw material areas, many coffee processing and exporting businesses in the area are stepping up investment in technology and building linkages with farmers to improve product quality and value.
In an interview with Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Thai Nhu Hiep, Chairman of Board of Members and Director of Vinh Hiep Co., Ltd., said that in context of Vietnam playing an increasingly important role in the global coffee supply chain, businesses are forced to innovate to adapt to market demands.
Vinh Hiep currently collaborates with over 10,000 farming households, developing raw material areas according to international standards such as 4C, Rainforest Alliance and organic. The company has built a sustainable coffee production network with an output of over 150,000 tons per year, exporting to more than 40 countries and territories, with European market accounting for approximately 60%.
“It’s time for Vietnamese Robusta to move beyond its role as a cheap raw material and become a new symbol of quality. To achieve this, businesses must produce clean, transparent products that fully meet international standards to increase value instead of just competing on price”, Mr. Hiep emphasized.
Besides Vinh Hiep, Gia Lai also has many large export businesses such as Hoa Trang Gia Lai Import-Export Co., Ltd., Tropico Tay Nguyen Coffee Co., Ltd., Tin Thanh Dat Joint Stock Company, Louis Dreyfus Company Vietnam Trading and Processing Co., Ltd., etc. These businesses have invested in modern warehousing and processing systems, while also expanding their raw material areas to meet export standards.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hai Phong, General Director of Tropico Tay Nguyen Coffee Co., Ltd., trend of producing internationally certified coffee is receiving more attention from farmers, cooperatives, and businesses. This is a prerequisite for businesses to invest in deep processing and develop high-quality coffee lines.
Currently, the company is collaborating with farmers to develop both Robusta and Arabica coffee organically. In 2026, the company's green coffee bean production is expected to reach approximately 20,000 tonnes, of which about 2,500 tonnes will be high-quality coffee for export to EU, the Middle East and Southeast Asian countries.
In addition to expanding markets, businesses are also focusing on building a closed value chain from raw material sourcing, procurement, processing to export, aiming to enhance the value of Gia Lai coffee beans in the international market.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Kha, Deputy Director of Gia Lai Department of Industry and Trade, said: "Coffee is a key export item of the province, already present in about 60 countries and territories, including many demanding markets such as European Union (EU), the United States and Japan. Effectively utilizing free trade agreements along with standardizing raw material sourcing areas, investing in deep processing, and building brands is creating more room for this key industry to continue its breakthrough in the future".
