Electronics and hi-tech products: leading role in export structure of FDI sector

 Thursday, August 6,2026

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the statistics from the Customs Department, the exports of goods by FDI enterprises in June of 2026 reached US$40.71 billion, an increase of 7.6% compared to May of 2026 and a 31.85% increase compared to June of 2025.

Overall, in the first six months of 2026, the exports of goods by FDI enterprises reached US$212.26 billion, an increase of 26.07% compared to the same period of 2025, further affirming the leading role of the FDI sector in Vietnam's export growth. The main drivers of growth still came from high-tech goods, electronics, machinery and equipment, and processing and manufacturing industries with high technological content.
Electronics and high technology products continued to play a leading role in the export structure of the FDI sector.
Computers, electronic products, and components continued to be the largest export item of the FDI sector, with export turnover in June of 2026 reaching US$14.86 billion, an increase of 11.5% compared to May of 2026 and a significant increase of 62.19% compared to the same period of 2025. For the first six months of 2026, exports of this group reached US$70.7 billion, an increase of 50.09% compared to the same period in 2025, accounting for 33.31% of the total export turnover of the FDI sector. This is the most outstanding growth rate among key product groups, reflecting the expansion trend of production by multinational electronics corporations, the continued improvement in consumer demand for semiconductor products, electronic components, and technology equipment in the international market, and demonstrating the effectiveness of large-scale FDI projects that have recently come into operation.
The exports of machinery, equipment, tools, and other parts in June of 2026 reached US$6.02 billion, an increase of 3.74% compared to May of 2026 and a 33.13% increase compared to the same period in 2025. For the first six months of 2026, the exports of this product group reached US$31.72 billion, a 25.73% increase compared to the same period of 2025. This indicates that the demand for investment in machinery and production equipment worldwide continues to improve, especially in high-tech and automation industries.
In addition, the exports of telephones and components in June of 2026 reached US$5.31 billion, an increase of 4.53% compared to May of 2026 and an increase of 18.68% compared to the same period of 2025. For the first six months of 2026, the exports of telephones and components reached US$31.66 billion, an increase of 18.18% compared to the same period of 2025. Although the growth rate was lower than that of the computer group, telephones remained one of the important export pillars of the FDI sector.
The exports of cameras, camcorders, and components in June of 2026 reached US$683.73 million, a 3.61% increase compared to May of 2026 and a 13.45% increase compared to the same period of 2025. For the first six months of 2026, the exports of this product group reached US$4.06 billion, a 15.65% increase compared to the same period of 2025, continuing to benefit from the trend of shifting the production of optical equipment, sensors, and electronic components to Vietnam.
Overall, the export turnover of the three major electronics product groups (computers, telephones, and machinery and equipment) alone reached US$134.07 billion in the first six months of 2026, accounting for 63.16% of the total export turnover of the FDI sector, further affirming the central role of the high-tech processing and manufacturing industry in the export structure.
