AsemconnectVietnam - In June and the first six months of 2026, Vietnam's imported mobile phones and components continued to be primarily sourced from Asian markets, especially China and South Korea.

The import market structure remained largely unchanged, however, a trend towards diversification of supply sources emerged, with the proportion of imports from China decreasing while imports from South Korea, Taiwan, and other markets increased.
China continued to be the largest supplier of mobile phones and components to Vietnam, with a turnover of US$4.01 billion in the first six months of 2026, accounting for 82.52% of the total import value of this item. Although imports from China in June increased by 10.34% compared to the previous month and by 11.78% compared to the same period last year, the overall imports for the first six months of the year decreased by 8.40% compared to the same period of 2025. Consequently, the market share of this source decreased significantly from 88.25% to 82.52%, indicating that domestic and FDI businesses are gradually expanding their supply sources from other markets to reduce dependence on a single source and improve their adaptability to fluctuations in the global supply chain.
South Korea continued to be the second largest supplier market with import value reaching US$217.60 million in the first six months of the year, an increase of 25.62% compared to the same period last year. In particular, in June, the imports from South Korea nearly doubled compared to the previous month and increased by 57.96% compared to the same period of 2025. As a result, South Korea's share of total imports increased from 3.49% to 4.48%, reflecting the growing trend of importing phones and components from South Korean businesses to support the production activities of major electronics corporations investing in Vietnam.
In addition, the imports from Taiwan continued their positive growth momentum, reaching US$18.05 million in the first six months, a 58.98% increase compared to the same period last year. Although still small in scale, this market's share increased from 0.23% to 0.37%, demonstrating Taiwan's increasingly prominent role in supplying certain specialized electronic components and high-tech equipment.
Several other markets, such as Hong Kong and Japan, also recorded very high growth compared to the same period last year; however, the scale of imports remains modest, thus not significantly impacting the overall import structure. Conversely, imports from India and the UK decreased sharply, reflecting limited demand from these markets or a shift to other sources with more advantageous costs and supply chains.
The structure of Vietnam's import market for telephones and components in the first six months of 2026 still primarily depended on supply from China, but the concentration has decreased compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the proportion of imports from South Korea and some Asian economies tended to increase, reflecting the diversification of supply sources and shifts in the regional electronics supply chain. This trend did not only contribute to improving the stability of raw materials and components for production but also helped businesses minimize risks from trade and geopolitical fluctuations, creating a favorable foundation for Vietnam's mobile phone production, assembly, and export in the future.
