Vietnam's leading paper import markets in first months of 2026

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics figures from the Customs Department, in July of 2026, Vietnam's imports of all types of paper were estimated at US$238.13 million, a decrease of 5.1% compared to June of 2026 and an increase of 20.32% compared to July of 2025.
Overall, in the first seven months of 2026, the total import value of all types of paper nationwide was estimated at US$1.35 billion, an increase of 15.3% compared to the same period of 2025.
FDI sector and the Chinese market lead the import value of paper products.
Previously, in June of 2026, Vietnam's imports of all types of paper reached US$238.12 million, a decrease of 3.26% compared to May of 2026 and an increase of 20.31% compared to June of 2025. Overall, in the first six months of 2026, the total import value of all types of paper nationwide reached US$1.35 billion, an increase of 15.32% compared to the same period of 2025.
Imports of all types of paper by FDI enterprises in June of 2026 reached US$119.67 million, an increase of 0.38% compared to May of 2026 and an increase of 23.25% compared to June of 2025. Overall, in the first six months of 2026, the total import value of FDI enterprises reached US$653.21 million, an increase of 21.22% compared to the same period of 2025, accounting for 48.36% of the total paper import value nationwide (an expansion from 46.01% in the same period of 2025).
Regarding import markets, China, ASEAN, South Korea, and Japan were the four largest suppliers of various types of paper to Vietnam, accounting for a total of 85.17% of the country's total paper import value.
China was leading the list of the country’s main paper import markets with a total value of US$549.42 million in the first six months of 2026, an increase of 21.69% compared to the same period of 2025; accounting for 40.68% (an expansion compared to 38.55% in the first six months of 2025).
ASEAN was the second largest import market, with a total value of US$356.70 million in the first six months of 2026, an increase of 7.47% compared to the same period in 2025; accounting for 26.41% (a contraction compared to 28.34% in the first six months of 2025). Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand were the three largest paper suppliers to Vietnam within the bloc, accounting for a combined market share of 97.90%.
South Korea ranked third with a total turnover of US$122.53 million in the first six months, a decrease of 3.08% compared to the same period of 2025, representing 9.07% of the total. Japan ranked fourth with a turnover of US$121.94 million, an increase of 6.50%, representing 9.03%.
Following these were the EU (5.49%), Taiwan (2.37%), Russia (0.90%), India (0.75%), and the United States (0.58%). Notably, the imports of various types of paper from Russia, France, and Austria increased significantly compared to the same period of 2025.
