On the afternoon of July 28, 2026, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long received Kestutis Budrys, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
The working session was also attended by representatives of several functional units under the MoIT, including the Department of Foreign Market Development, the Department of Oil, Gas and Coal, and the Electricity Authority.
At the working session, Minister Kestutis Budrys shared valuable experience in ensuring energy security and diversifying supply sources through LNG terminals and the use of renewable energy. Renewable energy (wind and solar power) currently accounts for about 70% of Lithuania's electricity output, and Lithuania aims to reach 100% by 2030.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long expressed strong interest in this experience in the context of Vietnam's ongoing energy transition plan, which aims to raise the share of renewable energy and develop the ASEAN Smart Power Grid (APG).
Also during the meeting, the two sides discussed seaport connectivity between the two countries, with a view to turning Vietnam and Lithuania into strategic maritime gateways to each other's markets as well as to the region. The Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs proposed strengthening connections between Vietnamese seaports and the port of Klaipeda, a leading strategic seaport in the Baltic region that serves as an important gateway to the Northeast European market.
Besides, Minister Budrys also affirmed Lithuania's strengths in technology fields such as electronic devices and semiconductors. Lithuanian enterprises in these fields are actively expanding investment and establishing a presence in Vietnam, aiming to provide solutions for Vietnam's railway and electricity sectors.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long said that in order to realize the commitments signed between the two countries, as well as to bring into play the strengths of Vietnam and Lithuania, the two sides need to propose specific cooperation projects, integrated into frameworks such as the European Union's Global Gateway Forum and the Vietnam-EU energy transition programs, so as to make use of EU support funding. The Deputy Minister shared Vietnam's goal of becoming a developed country by 2045 and affirmed that the companionship of international partners such as Lithuania is of great importance to realizing these goals.
In response to Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long's proposal, Minister Budrys said Lithuania would soon draw up a specific action plan to realize the content of the discussions, and invited Vietnamese working delegations to visit Lithuania and survey its technology models firsthand.
