Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports in July 2026 reached approximately $1.06 billion, a 38% increase compared to the same period in 2025, marking a milestone that for the first time the product group's monthly export turnover has surpassed the $1 billion threshold, according to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit).
For the first seven months of 2026, the product group's cumulative export turnover reached approximately $4.76 billion, representing a 23% year-on-year increase.
These results reflect a strong recovery for the fruit and vegetable sector following a period of volatility. It also underscores the effectiveness of efforts to improve product quality, diversify markets, and better meet the increasingly stringent standards of importing markets.
Durian remains the dominant driver
Durian continues to be the flagship export item, contributing more than 50% of the group's total turnover and serving as a vital engine for its growth.
"Standardized supply, low heavy metal residue levels in key growing regions across the Central Highlands and the Southeast region, and strict quality control from harvest to packaging have enabled businesses to successfully bring durian back to major markets like China and Thailand," Vinafruit noted.
Domestic durian prices are also showing signs of recovery after a long stagnant period. According to several exporters, prices have risen by approximately VND5,000–7,000 ($0.18 - 0.26)/kg over the past week, depending on the variety. While Vietnamese durian faced intense competition from Thai supply in previous months, Thailand has now concluded its harvest season. Meanwhile, Vietnam is entering its peak season, creating a clear competitive advantage in the global market.
In addition to durian, several other commodities including coconut, mango, banana, passion fruit, and processed products have also recorded positive growth.
Continued market expansion
China remains the largest export market for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables. In the first half of 2026, exports to China reached approximately $2 billion, a 24.7% increase, accounting for 55% of the industry’s total export turnover.
Alongside this primary market, high-value markets continue to show positive trends. The United States was the second-largest export market, with turnover reaching $292.1 million in the first half of 2026, an 11.7% increase over the same period last year, accounting for 7.9% of the total export value. The EU ranked third with $214.4 million, a 31.8% increase compared to the previous year, representing 5.8% of the total exports. South Korea held the fourth position with $170.4 million in turnover, up 8.1% year-on-year, representing 4.6% of the total.
Within the EU, the Netherlands is the largest importer of Vietnamese produce, with a turnover of $117 million (up 46.8% and accounting for 54.6% of total exports to the region). Germany followed with $58.4 million (up 47%), while France accounted for 14.7% of the regional share.
