 Export Rice Prices
In the export market, data from the Thai Rice Exporters Association (TREA) showed that Thailand's 5% broken white rice was offered at USD457/tonne, the highest among the major rice-exporting countries.
Vietnam's Jasmine rice was quoted at USD543–547/tonne, while 5% broken white rice was offered at USD416–420/tonne.
According to Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the country exported an estimated 5.2 million tonnes of rice in the first half of the year, generating $2.38 billion in export revenue. Export volume increased 9.9% year-on-year, while export value declined 2.5%, reflecting continued pressure on prices.
The figures underscore a persistent challenge for Vietnam's rice industry: higher export volumes do not necessarily translate into stronger profits. Lower export prices, rising logistics and financing costs, and intense competition in global markets have continued to weigh on business performance.
Despite these headwinds, many rice exporters have shifted their focus toward higher-value products to strengthen profitability.
One example is Vietnam National Seed Group (Vinaseed – NSC), whose core businesses include seed production and rice exports. The company has been expanding its presence in key markets such as China and the United States, while investing in high-quality raw material areas to support exports to demanding markets, including Japan.
According to the company's management, Vinaseed's strategy has evolved from prioritising production volume to focusing on premium rice varieties, adopting advanced cultivation and processing technologies, and strengthening its brand to enhance product value and competitiveness.
For 2026, Vinaseed has set a revenue target of $114 million, up 24% from the previous year, and aims to achieve pre-tax profit of $12.6 million, an increase of14%, while taking into account potential weather-related risks that could affect agricultural production.
