According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), Vietnam's pepper exports remained resilient in the first six months of 2026 despite tightening domestic supplies.
In June 2026, Vietnam exported 23,103 metric tons of pepper worth $151.3 million. Export volume fell 8.2% and export value declined 8.9% from May 2026. Compared with June 2025, export volume slipped 1.4%.
The decline mainly reflected weaker demand from markets in Asia, Africa and the Americas compared with the previous month, while demand from Europe remained relatively stable.
Asia remained the largest destination in June, importing 9,886 metric tons, accounting for 43.7% of Vietnam's total pepper exports. Shipments to the region declined 10.2% from May and were down 18.3% from the same month a year earlier.
Exports to the Americas totalled 6,174 metric tons, down 8.2% from May but up 30% from June 2025. Shipments to the United States, Vietnam's largest single market, reached 5,373 metric tons, an increase of 21% from a year earlier.
Exports to Europe amounted to 5,753 metric tons, down 4.5% from the previous month but up 16.7% year on year, supported by firm demand from Germany and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, exports to Africa fell to 1,290 metric tons, down 8.9% from May and 22.4% from June 2025.
Overall, pepper exports slowed in June following stronger growth in May. However, steady demand from key markets, including the United States, Europe and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), continued to support Vietnam's exports.
During the first half of 2026, Vietnam exported 145,686 metric tons of pepper worth $940.5 million, up 17.4% in volume and 10.6% in value from the same period of 2025.
Although domestic pepper production continued to decline, exports maintained positive growth, supported by imported raw materials and stable demand from major overseas markets. Nevertheless, export growth showed signs of slowing in recent months as domestic supplies became increasingly constrained.
By destination, Asia remained Vietnam's largest export market, importing 66,456 metric tons, accounting for 45.6% of total exports and rising 15.2% year on year. Within the region, exports to China surged 64% to 15,244 metric tons, while shipments to the UAE increased 10.9% to 9,703 metric tons, reinforcing the country's role as a major re-export hub for Vietnamese pepper. Exports to India declined 27.2% to 6,433 metric tons, while shipments to Thailand nearly doubled to 6,094 metric tons.
Exports to the Americas reached 39,339 metric tons, up 31.1% from a year earlier and accounting for 27% of total exports in the first half. Shipments to the United States totalled 35,362 metric tons, an increase of 28.7% from the same period last year.
Exports to Europe rose to 30,929 metric tons, up 7.1% year on year and representing 21.2% of total exports. Shipments to the Netherlands jumped 53.5% to 4,956 metric tons, while exports to Germany fell 24% to 5,502 metric tons.
Exports to Africa totalled 8,962 metric tons, up 18.7% from the first half of 2025. Shipments to Egypt reached 4,554 metric tons, an increase of 43.1% year on year.
Overall, Vietnam's pepper exports maintained solid growth in the first half of 2026, supported by steady demand from major overseas markets and the stable supply capacity of leading exporters. However, tightening domestic raw material supplies increasingly posed a challenge to the sector's export outlook in the months ahead.
