Vietnam rice market on July 15: Fresh paddy prices in Mekong Delta jumped, while trading remained sluggish

AsemconnectVietnam - Fresh paddy prices in Vietnam's Mekong Delta rose sharply on July 15 compared with the previous day, while market activity remained subdued as both farmers and traders adopted a cautious stance.
According to the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Environment, prices of most fresh paddy varieties increased by around VND500 per kg.
Fresh Dai Thom 8 paddy rose to VND6,900–7,100/kg, while IR 50404 increased to VND6,000–6,200/kg. OM 5451climbed to VND6,300–6,500/kg, matching the price range of OM 18, which remained at VND6,300–6,500/kg. Meanwhile, OM 34 was steady at VND5,600–5,700/kg.Trading activity across key producing provinces remained limited. In An Giang and Dong Thap, new purchases were restrained as farmers held out for higher prices. Transactions also remained slow in Can Tho, Vinh Long, Ca Mau, and Tay Ninh, despite the upward movement in paddy prices.
In the raw rice segment, prices were largely stable across major grades. IR 504 raw rice traded at VND9,050–9,100/kg, while CL 555 stood at VND9,400–9,500/kg. OM 5451 was quoted at VND9,500–9,600/kg. Fragrant varieties including Dai Thom 8 and OM 18 were priced at VND9,200–9,400/kg and VND8,700–8,850/kg, respectively. Finished IR 504 rice remained unchanged at VND10,750–10,900/kg.
By-products recorded mixed movements. Broken fragrant rice increased by around VND100/kg to VND8,200–8,300/kg, while rice bran remained stable at VND7,950–8,100/kg.

Retail rice prices remained broadly stable. Nang Nhen rice sold for around VND28,000/kg, while Huong Lai rice was priced at approximately VND22,000/kg. Jasmine rice traded at VND16,000–17,000/kg, and ordinary rice remained in the VND13,000–14,000/kg range.
In the export market, Vietnamese rice prices showed little change. Jasmine rice was offered at US$513–517 per tonne, while 5% broken fragrant rice was quoted at US$510–520 per tonne. 100% broken rice was priced at US$348–352 per tonne.
Compared with competing suppliers, rice prices from Thailand and India remained lower, continuing to exert competitive pressure on Vietnamese exports.
