For the first six months of the year, the country’s imports of all types of corn were estimated at 6,798,900 tonnes, with a value of 1,713.2 million USD, an increase of 52.9% in volume and 48.6% in value compared to 2025.
According to the statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, in May of 2026, the imports of all types of corn reached 839,700 tonnes, with a value of 215 million USD, an increase of 2.7% in volume and 3.2% in value compared to the previous month. In the first five months of the year, the imports of all types of corn reached 5,284,000 tonnes, with a value of 1,321 million USD, an increase of 32.8% in volume and 28.1% in value compared to 2025.
In the first five months of 2026, Brazil was the largest supplier of corn to Vietnam, reaching 2.34 million tonnes with a value of 577.7 million USD, an increase of 133.3% in volume and 130.9% in value compared to the same period last year, accounting for 44.3% of the total volume and 43.7% of the total value of corn imports nationwide.
The next was the Argentinian market with a volume of 1.63 million tonnes and a value of US$411.7 million, a decrease of 17.2% in volume and 19.4% in value compared to the same period last year, accounting for 30.9% of the total volume and 31.2% of the total value of corn imports nationwide.
Notably, despite its small proportion, corn imports from India in the first five months of 2026 recorded a dramatic increase. Specifically, Vietnam imported 504,200 tonnes of corn from this market with a value of nearly US$127.3 million. Remarkably, the import volume surged by more than 310 times, while the value only increased by more than 45 times compared to the same period in 2025 due to the sharp price drop from this source.
