Nearly 2.4 billion USD worth of rice exported
Thursday, July 9,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s rice exports were estimated to continue increasing in volume in the first half of 2026. Rice industry is focusing on reducing emissions and increasing value to maintain its competitive advantage.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in June of 2026, Vietnam was estimated to export approximately 910,000 tonnes of rice, reaching a value of US$373.1 million. For the first six months of the year, rice exports reached approximately 5.2 million tonnes, worth of US$2.38 billion, an increase of 9.9% in volume but a decrease of 2.5% in value compared to the same period of 2025. The main reason was that the average export price of rice only reached about US$459.6/tonne, a decrease of 11.3% compared to the same period last year.
The Philippines continued to be the largest consumer market for Vietnamese rice, accounting for about 45% of total export value. China ranked second with 19.4%, followed by Ghana with 8.5%.
Notably, the value of rice exports to China increased by 87% in the first five months of the year, while exports to the Philippines decreased by 3.8% and Ghana by 24.7%.
Among the top 15 markets, Iraq recorded the highest growth, 132.4 times higher than the same period last year, while Cambodia experienced the sharpest decline at 68.1%. This trend shows that businesses are gradually diversifying their markets, but still remain significantly dependent on a few traditional markets.
