Fertilizer imports fell sharply

 Tuesday, July 7,2026

AsemconnectVietnam - According to statistics from the Customs Department, in the first five months of 2026, Vietnam's fertilizer imports reached 1.75 million tonnes worth of US$853 million, a sharp decrease of nearly 26% in volume and over 22% in value compared to the same period in 2025.

The main reason was the stable domestic supply and a shift in market structure towards diversification.
China remained Vietnam's main fertilizer import market in the first five months of 2026, with imports reaching 853,550 tonnes, worth of over US$253.8 million, a decrease of nearly 14.2% in volume and over 0.9% in value compared to the same period last year, accounting for 43.54% of the total fertilizer import volume and 34.22% of the total fertilizer import value of the whole country.
The Russian market ranked second with imports reaching 204,940 tonnes worth of over $102 million, a decrease of nearly 40.9% in volume and 39.2% in value compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, imports from Canada reached 96,390 tonnes, worth of $36.05 million, an increase of 46.8% in volume and a significant increase of 73.52% in value.
In the first five months of 2026, fertilizer imports from the ASEAN market reached only 183,950 tonnes, worth of over $60.7 million, a decrease of 43.44% and 36.86% respectively compared to the same period last year. Fertilizer imports from South Korea in the first five months of this year reached 79,990 tonnes, a decrease of more than 17.5%, while the value decreased by over 30%, to just over $26 million.
Imports of fertilizers from the EU continued to decline sharply, by nearly 43.3% in volume and 40% in value compared to the same period last year, reaching 30,320 tonnes, worth of nearly $13.4 million.
