Vietnam's leather and footwear exports increased slightly

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the calculations from the Customs Department, in the first 5 months of 2026, Vietnam's leather and footwear export turnover reached US$11.73 billion, a slight increase of 1.5% compared to the same period last year.

Of this, footwear exports reached nearly US$9.8 billion and handbag and suitcase exports reached US$1.95 billion.

The United States and the EU continued to be Vietnam's two largest traditional partners, recording stable growth, reaching US$4.68 billion (up by nearly 7.9%) and nearly US$3 billion (up by over 2.6%) respectively.
Meanwhile, the exports to markets in the CPTPP, RCEP blocs and the Asian region such as Japan and South Korea decreased.
In particular, the exports of leather and footwear products to the Chinese market decreased sharply by more than 20%.
The biggest bright spot in the export picture in the first months of the year belongs to India with a remarkable growth of nearly 417.7%, reaching almost 80 million USD.
