Vietnam's seafood exports in first half of 2026

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the Vietnam Seafood Association (VASEP), in June of 2026, Vietnam's seafood exports reached nearly US$1.1 billion, a 21% increase compared to the same period of 2025, bringing the total seafood export value of Vietnam in the first six months of 2026 to nearly US$5.8 billion, a 12.8% increase.
Key seafood export items of Vietnam in June and the first six months of 2026:
Shrimp continued to be the largest export group of Vietnam's seafood. In June of 2026, shrimp exports reached nearly US$446 million, a 20.7% increase compared to the same period in 2025, bringing the total shrimp exports in the first six months of 2026 to US$2.3 billion, a 13.6% increase, accounting for 40.5% of the country's total seafood export value.
Pangasius fish maintained its second position. In June of 2026, Vietnam's pangasius exports reached over US$209 million, an increase of 7.7%. The total value of Vietnam's pangasius exports in the first six months of the year reached US$1.1 billion, an increase of 12.1%, accounting for 19.4% of the total export value.
Meanwhile, the exports of other fish species, mainly marine fish and some freshwater fish reached nearly US$199 million in June, an increase of 19.8%; the cumulative figure for the first six months reached US$1.1 billion, an increase of 12%, accounting for 19.3% of the total export value.
In June of 2026, tuna exports reached US$85.9 million, an increase of 28% compared to the same period last year, but the cumulative figure for the first six months was only US$452.7 million, a decrease of 2%.
Squid and octopus exports in June reached nearly US$78 million, an increase of 26.5%; cumulative exports for the first six months reached US$380.2 million, an increase of 18.8%. The exports of crabs and other crustaceans reached US$45.3 million in June, an increase of over 55%; cumulative exports for the first six months reached US$206.2 million, an increase of 26.2%, while exports of shellfish increased sharply by 77.8% and reached US$31.3 million in June, cumulative exports for the first six months reached US$155.3 million, an increase of 33.1%; exports of other shellfish reached US$6.1 million in the first six months, but increased by 84.4%.
Vietnam's main seafood export markets in June and the first six months of 2026
China and Hong Kong continued to be the largest seafood export markets and the driving force behind Vietnam's seafood growth. In June, Vietnam's seafood exports to China reached US$256.6 million, a 32.2% increase compared to the same period in 2025. In total, for the first six months of 2026, Vietnam's seafood exports to China reached US$1.5 billion, an increase of nearly 38%, accounting for 25.8% of Vietnam's total seafood exports. The main seafood products exported to China include shrimp, pangasius, lobster, mollusks, and live and frozen seafood.
The US was Vietnam's second largest seafood export market, with export turnover to the US reaching US$195.3 million in June, a 48.3% increase compared to the same period in 2026. However, cumulative seafood exports to the US market for the first six months only reached nearly US$898 million, almost unchanged compared to the same period of 2025.
Meanwhile, seafood exports to the Japanese market reached US$150.2 million in June, an increase of 0.3%; cumulative exports for the first six months reached US$787.5 million, an increase of 0.7%. The exports to the EU market reached US$101.5 million in June, an increase of 6.3%; cumulative exports for the first six months only reached US$536.7 million, a decrease of 0.8%.
Seafood exports to South Korea reached US$419.4 million in the first six months, an increase of 9.0%. Meanwhile, exports to ASEAN reached $380.2 million, an increase of 15.8%; exports to other markets reached $1.1 billion, an increase of 17.1%.
